I was reading a book on Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan and I noticed Tomita performed what seems to be the first concert there after the openning day (around March 25 if memory serves) - "The Tale of Genji' was performed.

In Expo 1970 Osaka, Tomita's work was featured regularly as part of the Toshiba Pavillion (they aren't represented AFAIK in this fair).

Expo 2000 Hannover reportedly spend a large sum of money to commission Kraftwerk to record their first new song since the mid 80s as a theme. No such class (or presumably expense) this time, they got some guy-band rock star to write music for unknown new artist Dahlia to sing (I think she's half Japanese). Perhaps more surprising is they hired American avant garde theatre legend Robert Wilson to stage the nightly closing event of the fair. And that he turned in a very "family-oriented" show far closer to what an animation studio would put together than anything challenging in terms of culture or the arts.
