Del rey. In my opinion they are the best manga translators out there.

I hoenstly don't care about any of the titles they have except Negima and XXHolic i suppose, but I like the way they do things. The notes at the end of each volume, not erasing sound effects, but rather just writing what they mean next to them in a way that it doesn't look weird at the same time...coloured pages....and so much more. The only problem is the price cause they're still just getting into this part of the book industry (the company its self has been around forever publishing books o.o)...so their books are pretty expensive compare to VIZ and Tokyo Pop. Still, I think if you want good quality, go for Del rey.

    ADV has my vote.

i found Azumanga much more enjoyable to read compared to immortal Rain or Love Hina. i like how the pages are actaully spaced out.

I don't like how Tokyo pop switches it around. I like to read my manga the way it should be written.

Tokyopop used to do that but no longer. All their manga is the way it's supposed to be now (except olders titles like Sailor Moon and Clover and any old copies of like...flopped CCS)
But you also have to remember they publish Chinese and Korean manga. China and Korea do not read right to left like Japan, they read left to right like we do.
Such titles Tokyopop publishes that are either Chinese or Korean are Kill me, Kiss me, Queen's Knight, Under a Glass Moon and so on.
The fact that they bring over manga that isn't just Japanese earns them points, however they lose points for editing problems. (I've seen far too many mistakes in my Tokyopop manga...one from Zodiac P.I. comes to mind...along with how they called Tart a 'she' when he first showed up in Tokyo Mew Mew)

For me, Dark Horse loses points because it's bloody expensive in Canada. =/ While I pay 11$ or so for a Viz manga that's around 9$ American, I have to pay 22$ canadian for Oh! My Goddess! when it's around 13$ american. (or so says the back of the book)
FR is not a happy camper with Dark Horse. =/

ADV gets points from me because it's very much like Del Rey, however it loses those same points cause it also goes a little too far (I understand them not wanting to ruin the artwork when there's a transparent speech bubble, but leaving the original Japanese there and then writing the English translation somewhere other than in the speech bubble annoys me sometimes. =/)

    Viz loses points because they're starting to use dub names like 'Maximillion Pegasus' in YGO. >>;;

    There. My full reasoning XD

Out of the titles listed, most of the ones I own are infact Viz. Battle Angel Alita, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Angel Sancturary, and a few others take up large portions of my manga collection. >< Besides, I think they do a good job with their manga. <3

I said TokyoPop although I really liked Viz Media as well. I just had to go with how many from each list I found that I liked and TokyoPop had more:D

Based on overall quality and consistency of translation, I had to put my vote in for Del Rey. I particularly like the translator notes they include in essentially every volume. These notes give them the ability to include additional information to enrich the reading experience, but they don't clutter up the pages of the manga with awkward translations or parenthetical notes.

Del Rey isn't perfect, however. It would be nice if their website were a bit more user friendly, and their release lists better published (pdf format is nice and all, but it's not always accessible, and it takes longer to load). Their releases are also more expensive than Tokyopop or Viz releases, and while this doesn't particularly bother me, it can make purchasing the volumes a bit more difficult.

    ----

That said, the company that dominates my collection--both in the number of individual volumes and the total number of series--is Viz Media. They are releasing most of the titles I'm interested in at present, and their release dates are some of the most stable in the industry right now.

Tokyopop used to dominate my collection, but lately they just haven't been licensing and releasing a whole lot that I'm interested in. Additionally, they've decided to slow down their release schedules on most of their series to three or four volumes a year. I still love what I am getting from them, but I'm just not getting as much as I used to.

I couldn't help but notice that neither Go!Comi nor CMX were on the list of companies to choose from, yet both of them have decently sized collections available by this point. I'm particularly fond of Go!Comi's work as their translations are excellent and their production quality is top-notch. Their release schedules can be a touch spotty, but they're still getting everything figured out with regards to timing.

    ----

The company that loses this contest, hands down IMO, is ADV Manga. Spotty translation quality, inconsistent editing, and a poorly chosen business model really hurt this company. It's hard to find releases from them at all these days, and some of their titles have been bought up by other companies, notably Tokyopop. The rest of their titles seem to be lost in limbo, which is really unfortunate for fans of those series, but hardly surprising.

I don't even know if they've updated their website once in the past two years.

I think tokyo pop is the best.
they have a great website and i liek the variety of their selection.
i see more new, interesting stuff from them more than anyone.
granted viz has a lot of the favorites, but tokyo pop is good too.

If your a shoujo fan- u should check out shojo beat's new books.
I imagine they will have a bigger line up one day.
