Lately I can't view folders that include any avi files. An error occures, like this:

And when I ask for a report, it says that it is from Dvix..

    * just in case the link doesn't work:

I had problems with MSNM. And Winamp. Also with firefox.

I ran updated virus checker, newest spyware checker, and reinstalled. So far works.

So try spyware next. Reinstall MSNM. Go to change/remove programs.

You are not getting the problem. It is not with MSNM, the website nor the folders. There is something wrong with Dvix that I can't see.. because the problem isn't occuring with MSNM, it happend only once. But the majority were with the folders containing avi files and the error was from Dvix.

    Now you confused me. heh

Generally if the dvix doesn't play on two or more programs (like Media player classic) it is the dvix. It is the way it is encoded. Can't fix it.

Dvix is a form of compression. If it is not encoded right it won't work. If I can avoid it I do.

    So get a different version.

Easy fix: uninstall Divx, clear all files that depends with Divx and later reinstall them. While you are uninstalling Divx and when you later browse the files and if your windows doesn't crash, try to later reinstall them again. Or just get VLC media player.

this is an old post but it deserves a proper answer.

One likely problem is that the file you downloaded is corrupt. Typically fansubs will contain a crc in the filename to help you check if the file you downloaded contains "no errors" in a sense.

What you are probably experiencing is windows by default trying to preview the files.

divx isn't the only form of compression.
Judging by the image name: you might have been usiing the x-vid codec.

I suggest using ffdshow (which has support for both xvid and divx files)
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/

also to the interest of some is this:
    http://www.cccp-project.net/

It seems to be heavily advertised in certain fansubbing circles. Seems like a good idea for people that aren't too tech savy and just want to enjoy their anime.

It is generally advised to stay away from codec packages. While it may be simpler to start with, you can run into many problems later when the original codecs get updated and the package doesn't.

Spend the extra time to get each individual install.

are you referring to fansubs or certain hacked video codecs?
