I was hoping someone could tell me a good way to shrink an image file without losing the size. Shrinking the quality didn't help much. It is a JPG file. I guess it has to of had a good resolution. I do not want to use paint that is just so wrong after adobe. Any ideas how? Is there something after jpg?

Shrink an image size? As in file size? Or as in resizing the actual image?

i think she means like changing 45K into 25K. downing the space it takes up.

i dont really know how to do that. i can do it with video, but thats easy.

The lowest size is J-Peg, as far as I know. At least that will keep good quality. GIF may be something you wanna try, but it'll kinda screw with the quality quite a bit.

If you just wanna size the pixels down, just use Photoshop. It's gonna size down the size, and the amount of space ;)

You could always try png, and if it's photoshop, gifs still save pretty well.

Gifs are usually the best file extension to use if you are gonna make a homepage. Small and they are pretty decent :)

I feel sorry for 56k members browsing random peoples pages with a 700kb JPEG background, cut into 7 seperate files.

    (What happened to Sesshomaru? :p)

You mind if I ask you for the original pic? I'd like to see some like "before and after" in both sized pixels and Kb on GIF, since I always use PNG.

Great to see GIF worked for you!

I had him for over a year. I think it was time to change.

    Sure first attached pic.

NP. Look at the attachments. I made a few (over 30) Bleach Avatars to switch back and forth too. Its my new obsession. Along with Naruto will make some of those at some point.

If you want more examples I'll put more up.

I don't see a difference in these yet.

I prefer 8 bit PNG than GIF (which is also 8-bit)
I have WAY more control over the final image
    Paint shop pro 9 babeh'

I want paint shop pro X now TT_TT supposedly is world faster with 2000x1500 and up piccies (in what I usually work with when CGing >.> and a nasty crash after some time of being used )

Well for doing avatars for a small image isn't bad. I guess as the picture is bigger that will change I take it? Is PNG also have a low size like GIF?

Yeah, but usually GIF is lower. Also, the quality may worsen on GIF in some programs (mainly paint). PNG is a small file, and keeps it's true quality.

So why did you not suggest PNG earlier, SakataKentaro?

The method I use to shrink my Gifs for my own sigs is to go into photoshop, do my work, and when im all done I "Save for Web" under the file menu. This brings up a new page that has a host of options to shrink filesize, everything from different features of the image to image quality. Hell, just by saving the file this way (without touching anything at all in the new screen) the images are usually under the file cap, whereas by saving it normally, it's a much larger file that I have to lower the quality to get it to fit.

The only problem with "Save for Web" it has a pretty good chance of artifacting transparent parts of images. I tend to go back into the saved gif and put it under an extreme pink background to see there are any artifacts that pop up. Also, gifs can only handle so much color, as far as web-able gifs from photoshop, you can definitely see that in my signature.

It's a great way to get a good filesize for those awesome gifs. See my own signatures for yumminess. =]

Filesize is a big issue with some of my friends. Their sig images typically take up in the area of 3 megs, at a size of ~500x250.

    Yeah. It's pushing it.

S'why I use MSPaint and HP Image Zone. :p I usually crop and resize in Image Zone, add text in MSPaint and save as .bmp, then I copy/paste it into a new MSPaint file and save as bmp again. Then I open it in Image Zone and save it as a jpg. No filesize worries for me with that method. :)
