Manga Galaxy Express 999

So ok, Galaxy Express 999. I've never seen it, never read it, know next to zero about it but it looks (from the cover and what little I know) both really good and like I would dig it.

I'm a big fan of the whole Honor Harrington series of books by David Weber and I was wondering if this was somewhat like that, ancient sort of elagant nobility mixed with scifi technology.

Plus the first volume of the manga is like $14 online so I was thinking of picking it up. I am on a budget so what are everyone's thoughts?

Sorry,I read the whole volume to expecting childhood, but now cannot remember contents clearly.
But there is interesting memory.
