    You don't say!

The mere mention of fare like that just makes your offer even more tempting. Those little things like what you mentioned are what I'm looking for from old-school Cartoon Network. Maybe I'll purchase copies of your tapes from you (hopefully at a fair price) and hopefully find someone to convert them to DVD. Man, i wish I could time warp back to '95, DVR box in hand, and jury-rig it to record fresh copies of G-Force episodes, which 10 years ago would've been running right now.............

Wow, thanks. I REALLY appreciate the free offer. And if you find that G-Force commercial you're talking about by all means catch it, and never let it go! I need as much minute info about G-Force as possible, as one of my long-term goals is to create the best GoS fansite out there. With how busy my life is right now it seems like a pipe dream though. I'm busy enough not to be able to accept your offer right now.

So remember, keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars! (ZING! Sorry Mark, just having fun! :D )

That also sounds like a great idea, but man am I busy nowadays. That would be far down the line if possible.

G-3, do you happen to know which episodes you have in your collection? A big flaw about the G-Force dub is that there aren't any episode title cards at the beginning of every episode like in BotP & Gatchaman. So you have to depend on the online episode title databse if you have the episodes in order. If you don't, then that's where it becomes real difficult. Though that can be remedied if you're regularly being the ADV Gatchaman releases and match up the corresponding G-Force episodes & titles with it, seeing as apart from 2 episodes (81, which didn't make it to BotP or G-Force, and 85) G-Force follows the order of the original Gatch episodes up until ep 87 where G-Force cuts off (apparently Turner didn't want to provide any more funding for the dubbing of the last couple of eps so they say, either that or they were just too damn violent or some corruption behind the scenes was going on I dunno).

Another question, in the commercials/bumpers in your tapes, are there any mentions of "Super Adventures" or "Afternoon Adventures"? Because the latter was the afternoon cartoon block in which G-Force debuted and ran from back in '95.

And my last question, and this is the true test of your love for GoS:

Can YOU tolerate the constant droning backbeat that plays throughout EVERY single episode of G-Force? This backbeat that I speak of has driven away people in hordes, as if Godzilla were terrorizing their city, leaving the handful that is the GoS fanbase such as us. I have to be honest as the most vocal GoS fan here that the backbeat drives me up a wall depending on what mood I am, but never enough to make me turn off an episode. It is because of this backbeat that many have come to hate GoS, and why it is largely forgotten. Its other flaws can be tolerated and looked past, but not the backbeat. You never know, if it wasn't for the backbeat, our own Mark would've been going under the alias "Ace Goodheart" (or am I just pushing my luck too much? :D ) and maybe, just maybe we could've seen some G-Force DVD's..................

    Later gator.............

Yes Dirk, you're pushing your luck WAY WAY WAY over the edge! Even if GoS was the ultimate cartoon in history, I'll alwats be emotionally attached to BotP because I grew up with it. But I do believe if they were able to use the BotP soundtrack that Hoyt Curtin composed, it would have been a plus for the series. Or even if they used different backbeat music and not the same one over and over again, you know? With the way it is, it's like a Chinese torture.

One thing GoS has for it is the storyline...more adult and dark like the original series.

well their all out of order, since i lost all but two of my tapes, so i'm just gonna name what comes to mind, i'm probably leaving some out, but i'll come back and add if i do, ok i have...

    The Strange White Shadow
    The Giant Centipoid
    The Phantom Fleet
    The Micro-Robots
    The Riddle of Red Impulse
    The Antoid Army
    The Mighty Blue Hawk
    The Locustoid
    The Deadly Red Sand
    The Giant Jellyfish Lens
    The Beetle Booster
    The Whale Submarine
    The Racing Inferno
    The Mightiest Mole
    The Fiery Dragon
    The Mammoth Iron Ball
    The Invisible Enemy
    The Sinister STAR-ONE
    The Dinosaur Man
    Wheel of Destruction
    The Secret Red Impulse
    The Van Allen Vector
    The Strange Strike-Out
    A Deadly Gift
    The Abominable Snowman Cometh
    Battle on the Ocean Bottom

(Return to Life, Boomerang) i had to call that by the Gatchaman title, because i'm not sure what its G-force title is, and i have that one, with the fat hippie Joe, who works for Gallactor, and peewee brings him to work at the snackJ, i have a few more episodes. but i can't think of em all right now,

now about that backbeat music, you know i guess because i was so young at the time i started watching G-force, i really didn't care much about the music, and so it never bothered me, still to this day, it doesn't, heh i guess i'm the only one!?

Check this page out for a list of all G-Force episodes titles (which as I mentioned follow the original episode order of Gatchaman except for 2 episodes.):

    http://www.totalimagespecialists.com/Gatchaman/Versions/GForce.htm

You know, I'm wondering what was up with those 2 lone G-Force episodes that had a different backbeat soundtrack. I recall seeing one of those ages ago on a late-night rerun of G-Force (an episode where Peewee falls for for this little girl and takes her on a date to a Galactor-governed amusement park). Even way back in '95 I was well aware of this repetitive backbeat all throughout G-Force and wondered "why does it CONSTANTLY come on?" in my head. When a cut of the Gatchaman soundtrack came on it was always a fresh breath of air for me. But it was funny how a 10-second blare of Gatchaman music came after the backbeat, then as soon as it was finished the backbeat started up from the beginning once again. Sandy Frank's stranglehold on their BotP creation inadvertenly dealt a big blow to Turner's G-Force, as I'm sure they were striving to create a more "mature" BotP that was faithful to Gatchaman. *sigh*, if only I were able to get in contact with Mr. Fred Ladd, as I'm sure (if he's still in the right state of mind) that he knows ALL about G-Force, or at least the most readily available person. I'm sure an interview with him would be a HUGE contribution to a potential GoS fansite.

Trivia: Fred Ladd was the producer of the G-Force dub. He was commisioned by Turner to produce a new dub for Gatchaman, after Sandy Frank lost partial rights to it.

The backbeat that you hear in every G-Force episode is a stripped-down version of the G-Force theme song that plays in the beginning and end of every episode. Listen to both carefully. In some episodes they just outright loop the G-Force theme song, as a cheap way to produce some variation to the backbeat.

G-3, can you provide any summaries/descriptions of any G-Force related commercials/bumpers that you have on your tapes? I must admit I'm dying for some more information on them!

The two episodes that have the backbeat all the way through (if I remember right, the one with Peewee and that girl in the theme park, and one where I can't remember the specifics but there's a lot of ice and snow involved and I don't think it was ever a BOTP episode) were the two pilots. So they were made before the others with all the original Gatchaman background music replaced, and they have more variation to the backbeat.

Presumably viewing of the pilots led to the decision to leave the original music in and use the backbeat to fill the gaps instead.

Can't say I'm a fan of the backbeat myself, but I did learn to get used to it - I haven't watched any G-Force for two or three years so I don't know if I'd have to relearn that tolerance from scratch....

Also, I'm not quite sure what you mean by Sandy Frank's stranglehold?

What I meant from stranglehold was them refusing to let Turner use any aspects from BotP (soundtrack, names, terms), which didn't bode well for a project that from the start didn't have the fundings & dedication that BotP did.

From the episode list I read it lists episode 18 (The Whale Submarine) as the pilot for G-Force.

Lets just hope the whole series will get remastered on dvd. That will surely blow my set away, whenever it gets finished.

Yeah, that episode when I viewed it ages ago always stood out from the rest due to the different backbeat soundtrack.............

I wonder, what could've gotten G-Force canned after only 1 week on the air back in 1986? I seriously don't think 1 week is long enough to decide whether a show will succeed or fail. Besides, cable television was still making inroads slowly across the country back in the '80s, and TBS (G-Force's first home) probably wasn't readily available back then. Something else must've happened to get the show yanked off the air and into the vaults for almost a decade until Cartoon Network gave it another lease on life back in 1995. But supposedly it bombed on CN (hell hath no fury like the scorn of the BotP fans, eh? ) and was canned in early 1997 as I found out elsewhere (and also slightly recall). It did however make a small return to CN as schedule filler on one of CN's old late-night anime blocks (Toonami Midnight Run) in early 2000, and then was yanked off for good.

Kinda off-topic, but what's the deal with Rhino and their BotP releases? They started releasing BotP on DVD more than 4 years ago, and to this day have only released about half of the series. Not to mention they're losing sales with the giant UK boxset out. I think its futile to even buy their releases at this point, I was planning on buying the first 6 volumes since they have 6 G-Force episodes altogether, in probably the best condition we'll ever see them.

For those who purchaed Rhino's BotP releases, do you strongly believe in the "Rhinomation" logo in front of all their BotP DVD's. Rhinomation signifies that they went through hell to acquire the best conditioned master tapes for BotP/G-Force, and that the sound on their DVD's is as good at it gets. If that's the case than the BotP & G-Force prints sure have deteriorated badly! :D Just kidding, but that would be commendable of them if they went through great lengths for them. The G-Force sound on the BotP DVDs is crystal-clear and loud, though its mono stereo. The stand-alone G-Force DVD's sound doesn't fare as well though.

I have the UK BOTP set and it kicks butt. I also have all of the Rhino releases too.
As I have said earlier, I'm in the process of putting all of G-Force on DVD. The qaulity is no a A. More like a B-, but overall you can't complain. i may however offer samples of the first 2 that i have. Please note: That you are not buying these dvds, you are paying for the shipping. The first dvd in the set is from PAL source, so I hope you can play it....

the commercials were made by cartoon network, i think? and its computerised animation, from the "The Giant Centipoid" with some guy in the background saying gallactor wants us to change the channel...blah blah blah,

and then there's the other one, before G-force was on air,
"coming to the cartoon network, its G-force"

    :)
