The "little box" next to your postings will change color and number - green and plentiful when you acquire a lot of positive karma, and red when you accumulate a lot of negative karma. The Karma system is weighted so that long time members and those of higher responsibility can give karma more often and at more of a level of significance.

This prevents newbie users from playing ping-pong with each other's karma, and also means as a more valued member, that you have more influence on someone else's reputation. ^^

Newly Registered User: Set to 10 Karma.

Here's the breakdown of our current weighting:
    • +1 to karma weighting for each year since a user has registered.
    • +1 to karma weighting for every 1000 posts.
    • +1 to karma weighting for every 100 points of positive Karma.
    • Minimum of 50 posts before a user's Karma weighting factors in.
    • Minimum of 10 positive karma before a user's Karma weighting factors in.
    • Limit of 10 karma ratings a day per user.
    • Spread of 20 users - A user must give out karma to 20 more users before giving karma to the same user again.

    Current reputations are:
    • User can only hope to improve (-50)
    • User has a little shameless behaviour in the past (-10)
    • User is neutral (0)
    • User is on a distinguished road (10)
    • User will become famous soon enough (50)
    • User has a spectacular aura about (150)
    • User is a jewel in the rough (250)
    • User is just really nice (350)
    • User is a glorious beacon of light (450)
    • User is a name known to all (550)
    • User is a splendid one to behold (650)
    • User has much to be proud of (1000)
    • User has a brilliant future (1500)
    • User has a reputation beyond repute (2000)

All of our members have to power to reward good posting as well as slam for bad posting via this system.

    Dear BMS
May you please explain "Latest Reputation Recieved" section under the User CP?
I recieved a maroon/brownish box, and a grey, box and a green box next to the listing of the posts I was awarded a certain reputation point, which I have no clue what do they stand for. I've tried putting my cursor on these boxing to see if there is an "ALT" message, but no use.

So I have no idea if I lost or gained any reputation points, and if I have to improve my posting behaviour  ...

Sure, I can explain that simply:

red - you received negative karma for this post
green - you received positive karma for this post

grey - someone either awarded or penalized your post, but they themself do not have enough karma weighting to affect your karma

When exactly do your Karma votes count? How many posts do you need untill you are no longer considered a noob?

It has nothing to do with your level of "n00b", but rather some public contribution and positive notice. In fact, considering a newly registered user starts with 10 karma, you really only need to fulfill the 50 posts requirement to dish out your own rewards/punishment. Unless, of course, you get some negative karma for those 50 posts (an example would be spamming your way all over in order to reach that mark).

It's all explained in the first post of this thread, along with how your karma weighting improves...

As a little suggestion, perhaps you could offer different levels of Karma bonuses? (As of now, it's "I approve," or "I disapprove") Perhaps you could give some more variation?

    For Example:

    Choices:

    1: I strongly approve
    2: I approve
    3: I disapprove
    4: I strongly disapprove

In this way, we could give levels of approval, which could be worth a percentage of your karma weighting (Ie. Strongly approve would add 100% of Karma weighting, plain disapprove would lose them 50% of your Karma weighting)

You see what I'm getting at, right?

That has both pros and cons in my opinion. I mean, yes if would give you more options and can give more of an opinion ect. But it would make is harder, than it already is, to earn Karma point. Because then, people could be giving out only a 50% of a points, which doesnt compare to amount of Karma ussually. And some who have low weighting, may be giving points with Decimals, which makes it kind of odd. But wether or not you aprove or strongly aproove etc. you can specify in the comments part. You really dont need to extract or add a percentage of points.

There should be a scale on the bottom left corner of everbody's posts. Right below where it says "Friends".

Press that in order to start giving Karma.

Here's a vital question: Why not?

Because it's not a feature included with vBulletin. It would require for Cloud to code it himself. While I certainly don't doubt his ability to do so, considering he's the author of the popular vBFriends and vBFOAF hacks, it's time-consuming.

You can't view a definite list of who you gave karma to, but if you go to give karma to someone and it says you need to spread before giving the person more, then you know you already gave karma to that person. A list isn't really needed, and I presume that's why the feature wasn't included in the first place.

I see. I can understand why, seeing that. Still, it would be a nice feature to have. Also, it would be nice to be able to check farther back than the last five times someone gave you karma, but I suppose there's the same problem there, eh?

Exactly :) I'm glad the question's been asked, now that's cleared up.

Check your User CP, beside "Latest Reputation Received" on the bottom of the screen.

one more annoying thing to add! I know what the stars mean like moderator and member and stuff. But how do you get more or move to the next lv?
