I just bought an external iomega Super DVD Writer 16x, I installed it and then plugged it in.. but when I try to access it it gives me an error (attached).. a note to consider: The DVD Writer is a Dual Format, as far as I know it can writes on both - and +. And the DVD I am using is a DVD -R.

    P.S. What is Cracked discs?

usually that message appears in some optical drives when there isn't a cd-r or dvd in it. that isn't an error. :)
if for some reason it appears when you have a cd-r or dvd that you know that is functioning then thats a problem with the laser reader. try to clean it and if still doesn't work change it for a new one.
if it wasn't detect by windows it would be an hardware problem related probably by an ide cable but inserted or by a jumper also bad inserted but since it is detected i don't think that that is the problem. :)

I 'stuffed' a normal DVD (azumanga daioh :p) and it worked (but freezes a bit, unlike using my normal (internal) DVD player. I didn't inserted a CD yet, should I give it a try or it won't matter??

lol... :p forgot the external part. yea you should try to use all the cds type cause a drive can read some types of cds and don't read the others.
i fix alot of pcs at my work and some of their dvd drives etc. that come broken read normal cds but don't read dvd or otherwise.

c'mon saber :p I might be stupid, but not that much to not know this part :p

The weird thing is it plays the anime/movie DVDs that I bought, but it doesn't recognize the ones I want to use to write (DVD -R). If nothing else works, I'll have to take it to a 'specialist' today, if it seems that it really doesn't work, then I am in a little problem. I bought it out of country, so I'll have to return it there :/

dvd-r are known to not be universally compatible like burning a simple CD-R... same with DVD+R... only it it's supposed to be a wee more compatible... hence the + sign...

What program are you using to try to burn? Sometimes my G would sya inaccessible, but that's only through windows. See, I used to burn cds through windows, I'd just grab my folder right click and say 'send to F' or something. But I can't do that anymore, I go to my burning drives they say inaccessible. So I use Nero to burn dvds and cds.

What burning programs did you get with your ext. dvd writer?

I don't remember the name, but they told me the same, I can't burn into DVDs using windows. I should use the program. Now I have the program installed plus Nero (old version) and they told me to try and d/l service pack 2.

I'll give these a try then see what will happen..

I have Nero 6 Ultra Edition, go to Burning ROM. Nero will work for you.
