isn't it improper to have the question mark and dekimasu ka? well...isn't it improper to have question marks in japanese? lol...i know as much japanese as i do russian...in other words, i hardly know any japanese. so translations would be helpful

question: what does dekimasu mean? present tense...hate this base verb tense stuff.

 

the "ka" serves as a question mark, thats its meaning in the sentence.

 

aint it cool how with just the replacment of a few simple vowels you can make one word into a very rude saying?

 

yeah, it would of been better if it said, "dareka nihongo shyaberimasu ka?" or something like that. anyway,

:glazed: :glazed: :glazed: Wow!!!!!!! No wonder sub-titles of the same sentance can vary widely (or wildly) between translators!!!! And I've had trouble wrapping my head around Spanish!!! Hehehehehe!!! There is one thing I'd like to ask, though. I've heard in several different programs characters call others who are much older than than "Gisan" (Yes, I'm sure I've spelt that wrong) which I understand to mean "grandfather". However, this isn't "grandfather" as in a blood relation.
Is this considered polite? or is it like saying "elder"? And, do you use the same word for a female elder, calling her "gisan" as well, or is there another word for "grandmother" when used in this way? Just wondering....... :catgirl:

not too sure....but:
If you say that you said it because you could say it, if you dont say it even though you can say it, not saying it because you can, why are you able to say it if you say it, because saying it is better.

basically, if you can say it, say it.

dekimasuka is "can you?"
dekiru-> polite form --> dekimasu
question + ka

= dekimasuka

ojiisan = grandfather
obaasan= grandmather
ojisan= uncle
obasan= aunt

these words don't necessarily have to have blood relation. Like in some other languages, you can call someone around your mother's age "aunt", etc. You can call anyone uncle, aunt, grandmom, granddad, mom, dad, but you will have to be careful of age. (you can easily offend someone)

Only some words related to family MUST have blood relation. These are used when you talk about your OWN family*
haha = mom
chichi or oyaji = dad
oya = parents

you also have to remember that you call your friends brothers and sisters by completely different terms, than your own.

Oyaji is also a very rude way to say father.

as for callling your own brothers or sisters, I'm not sure in other areas, but in the Tokai area, we hardly ever use them.

We know it's pronounced "kuso" or something like that, but what's the correct spelling?? If you ever read some of the fan fiction on the gatch fan fic page, you'll see just how often that comes up!!! Hmm I dont know ...but it doesn't make sence ....I'm not that good in Japanese but it saying [ can you japanese!?] or something like that ne?!

 

The verb "to wish for" is Nozomu, i think ive posted up a list of tenses and situations for any basic verb; and this is one of them so just cross reference for different tenses.
I also think just "a wish" is 'Nozomi', pretty similar eh?

Related words - 'Yumei' is the word for Dream.
'Negau' is the verb to Hope, and just Hope is Kibou (can also mean dream in the same context i think...)

I dont actually know the word for cursed... (but know the kanji from video games XD) so you'll have to wait for Kaori-san to get back to you on that =)
