    Hi there!

My thanks in advance for your time.

Back in 1980, I had recorded a "Lights out" program from my local radio station. These programs would sometimes feature full albums of a paticular genre. The time I recorded this program there was some really unique electronic music. I later identified one of the tracks to be from Tomita (many years later.)

Before that I had contacted the program director from the radio station (even sent him my tape) and he wasn't sure what was what.

Is there a possible way to identify a few tracks, to see if it's from the same artist (Tomita)?

It's been 20+ years and I'd really like to find this material. My tape recording is very poor quality.

I recorded a few bits onto the PC and have them saved in .wav and .mp3 format, each only a few seconds long.

Would anyone like to have a listen (if it's possible)? There's so many titles from this artist, and many hard to find that trying to find these specific cuts would be vey hit and miss.

I hope that this post isn't bending any forum guidelines. I m new here.

    Thanks for looking.

    Max.

I will work on that... I think my internet provider should offer some space somewhere.

You're also welcome to email it to me, if you'd like. Just remove Tomita from my email address:
    ixqyTomita@aol.com

I'm on dial up, so it'd be great if you have a relatively small sized MP3.

    I finally got it.

For some reason setting up a simple home page on Comcast is not so simple.

Each file is ~ half a meg. (MP3 format)

    Thanks for checking this out.

Okay...going from memory, sample two is from Tomita's Kosmos. Sample one is (I'm 99.99% sure) also Tomita. Not sure what album - could be Kosmos again. I haven't heard my Kosmos record in over decade, so my memory is not so great on that.

The third sample is not Tomita. It sound more like the style of Tangerine Dream. Could be any of a number of artists. Hopefully someone else will know.

Cool. Yeah I thought that 3rd sample was a bit like Tangerine Dream and a lot less like Tomita, but it was on the same tape so I thought I'd check.

Thanks again for the help I really appreciate it :D

If you get a chance to listen to that record, a follow up would be nice. ;)

I'll keep an eye on this thread. Thanks!!!!!!

    A quick follow up.

Sample 2 is indeed from Kosmos. A track titled: Sea Named "Solaris"

Hora Staccato is the (forgotten) name of the identified track that I have on record (Tomita's greatest hits) and is apparently from the same album.

Perhaps Sample # 1 is there too.

    Here's where I found that:

Thanks for the tip. Looks like I have an album to find! :) :D

20 years with that crummy tape is long enough!

***Another Update*** Local classical music store has a copy of the CD in stock!!!!

Thanks Andrew! You've made my day.

Glad to help... :) If you don't mind the recommendation, you might also want to consider picking up other Tomita CDs when you get Kosmos. The man is a genius, IMO. :p

Yes, 1 & 2 are from "Kosmos" and you should just buy it, it's not a rare or expensive album and makes for some fine listening.

3 has to be mid 70s to early 80s Tangerine Dream. (Before or after they sound rather different) I keep thinking "Tangram" but I'd have to refresh my memory by listening through some albums.

I don't recognise the TD piece, but let us know when you figure out what it is. It does sound like something from the Froese/Franke/Schmoelling era.

Man, you guys have been a big help.

That's all of the electroinc goodies from that old tape. Now that you know my interests, feel free to offer other reccomendations.
