I personally prefer Intel. Had too many unstable systems come out of AMD processors. The chips are nice for their price, but they run at a higher temperature and seem to have shorter lifespans than the more expensive Intel.

Overall, the two are in a constant competition and people are camped under different tents. Either one is good, but the war rages on nonetheless.

It's like Windows vs Linux or ATI vs Nvidia. One always jumps in front of the other for a while with a new piece of technology only to be outdone by the other afterwards until the cycle continues.

It also depends on what you do with the computer.

Gaming suits best with AMD processors while Intel Processors are often much better while using heavy programs.

But it also depend on your taste, I prefer AMD much more than Intel ;)

Intel is way better for media creation (Photoshop, rendering programs, etc), while the AMD chips are generally better for gaming. Note that it's like a 25% performance gap in media creation AGAINST AMD, and about a 5% gap FOR AMD in gaming. Nonetheless, AMD is generally better price to performance-ratio.

Athlon XP 2600 is around 2.4 Ghz. Correct me if I am wrong. But it also depends on what you RAM structure is. 512 DDR ram is just perfect for pure gaming.

In processors, AMDs run somewhat smoother during games but the P4 is mighty...

wrong teddz.. it's 2.2Ghz but in games they'll perform rouhgly the same or the Athlon will pull the P4s legs

    re: AMDs use more heat

Check out some of the reviews of the new Prescott.. One of the big complaints is how much hotter it runs than the Northwood. According to ZDnet.co.uk, Notrhwood P4 Heat < Athlon64 heat < Prescott p4 heat

This is bad because Prescott is the newer chip. Currently it runs about the same or slower than a Northwood at the same clock rate (thanks to a longer pipe), but its performance ramps up quicker and it will most likely pass Northwood around 3.6 or 3.8 at the latest.

If you are worried about heat and want an Intel chip, get a Northwood while you still can :D

I've been happy with AMD myself. It was the clear winner in price and performance when I got my chip (athlon 1400). After that AMD lagged for a while and introduced their stupid athlon XP ??00+ stuff, but lately Intel seems stuck and AMD has pulled ahead again, as far as gaming goes anyway :D The Intel chip that they are working on to pass AMD up again is the Prescott I talked about earlier.. not sure I'd want that heh

Also, I'm pretty sure nVidia's nForce doesn't work with Intel CPUs, and I rather want an nForce for the DTS encoding :D

    My 2 cents

However, while heat is a big complaint of many people, anybody who owns a Prescott knows it has A LOT of headroom for overclocking. It's not very uncommon for most people to overclock the 2.8 GHz Prescott to 4 GHz (or very close to it) and still be on air cooling. And it's still relatively cheap, too.

If I had to choose, I would choose AMD (I've personally only used Intel, but that will be changing soon). AMD offers a better price-to-performance ratio than Intel does.

but you also get to remember the 4GHz marks is not using default/stock heatsink

If it's a pc you should be looking for 512mb ram and much more space than that... well, that's just me. It may suit you just fine.

You would probably need 512 - 1024 MB DDR Ram (Currently getting 1024 DDR)

At least 80 GBs of space, and it should have 8MBs cache :)

The Ram 512 ok but u r telling me 1GB no way no need for that, the disk space 40GB to much why 80GB???I never heard about 8MB cache???

The most inportmeant thing is that it will be very supportful for me and for my games???

If you are using it solely for playing games then you might as well get 512ram (or 1 gb even, it'll come in handy for years to come) of ram... a bunch of game's minimum/recommended is 256 nowadays and 512 ram is stated one way or another in he specification box.

40GB space... if you are planning on installing lots of games... the installation itself for say... 5 of todays newest games, it will take up a good 10-15 gbs and other components and save games will take up a little more. But come on, are you really using it just for games? downloads maybe as well? then 40Gbs won't last you a month. I say 80 (minimum) is a healthy choice.
