  1. This is the Arturia virtual Moog Modular. Download the version for
    your operating system here: ftp://ftp.arturia.net/pub/downloads/

Hideki Matsutake (Logic System, YMO and a Tomita alumni) has done some
Moog Tomita style patches for this instrument, which you can find
under Bank>Sub-bank>Preset at the top of the screen. Nick Kent will
know much more about this than I do by the way (won't you Nick?! ;-)

I guess you get 4 Tomita sounds from Matsutake. I guess a couple are
vaguely fun but the thing lacks a ring modulator! The highs aren't very
great either. The rest of his sounds almost all refer to Yellow Magic
Orchestra songs (he worked with them from 1978 to 1981 though he didn't
in come back in 1983 when they went for a Prophet & Emulator sound or since)

The quality of many aspects of the Arturia simulation are exceptional
for a software emulation of something analog-like.

As a moog modular simulation the software falls short in behavior,
complexity, sound and has a limited and fixed selection of modules
compared to an actual moog modular that is medium size or greater.
Dissapointing is the emulating the *lack* of ring modulation and lack
of true a S&H processor found on under equipped Moog Systems though in
my mind a necessity. It is predictable that "standard" not very
processor intensive or authentic fx like chorus and delay are included
as they are by a lot of Japanese synths to make the sound more "full". I
would have perfered more authenticity like a spring emulation,
original moog phaser (not the mfooger) and ability to easily use the
fixed filter bank flexibly anywhere in a patch is only componding the
lack of many control voltage parameters one expects on a decent soft
synth today (all parameters modulatable, not just the one moog could
manage in 1964, more CV shaping tools to create virtual CV, etc.).

So as a whole, yes it sounds nice as software and it would perhaps would
be nice for portability especially if it had a more varied, more
flexible supply of modules. They do make strides with nicer sounding
oscillators and nice soft clipping to make the sounds more intense not
    just more loud.

And if anyone can email me a copy of the OSX version, I'd be grateful! For
some reason I can UnStuff the file.

    Thanks,

Actually, save your bandwith! I've managed to open it with Stuffit Expander
    7.01.

  5. I think its a problem with the file - I had the same thing happen, and
I've tried downloading it several times.
