ME is a buggy, hashed together, unstable piece of nothing... ;p

J2X listed it off as I would. Where would he place the Xeon, though, I wonder...? :D

You forgot the Athlon 64 FX. It owns all other processors, for gaming. Not so good for multimedia apps, though.

Your computer teacher is way off the mark; ME is HORRIBLE. Not 1 week after upgrading I sorely regretted it, and when the time to format that old computer comes, 98 is going back on.

From experience... I had a ME for 2 years and in terms of gaming it is very unreliable. Most of my games crash at least once every 5 times I play them. Tis pretty sucky. I'd go for XP. Very useful and efficeint.... Everything is just automatic!

    Re: confused

Frankly speaking, your teacher must like playing with blue screens.

A PC-bang I used to frequent had all their machines hooked up to ME. While playing was well enough, the WHOLE computer crashed at least once everytime me and my buddies went.

Like Shen said, XP is good because nearly everything in it is automatically done. Add an optical mouse, and it already has basic drivers for it. Add a USB keyboard, and it already has basic key drivers for it. Add an external harddrive, and it'll automatically pop up, asking if you want to format. It also has given me the least problems out of any operating system. Granted, I've not yet tried out any Linux and SuSe products, but I can safely voice for XP.

Also, consider Windows 98. Good stable program. However, I like the automaticality of XP a bit more. Plus it looks better. And I'm a vain man. Very vain. Narcissistic, nearly.

Your computer teacher is either stuck on DOS games, or mentally challenged. Windows XP is by FAR the best operating system for gaming right now.

FYI, I work at a gaming computer OEM (Voodoo Computers). I'm 100% certain that your teacher is wrong, and has no idea what he is talking about. Everyone at the office agrees.

2k3 Server SEEMS like a very decent OS, but Microsoft isn't pushing it or supporting it very much, which makes me a bit suspicious of it. It performs better than 2000 though, and with support for w2k being cut next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see MS start pushing it a bit harder.

    Re: confused

Wonder what other lies he's teaching the lot of you...

Consider the 9x series of windows. 95 came out, which was a major leap from good ol' 3.11.

However, when windows 98 followed in its wake, it had stability issues and bugs. Why? Because it wasn't a completely new O/S, instead building upon existing code that 95 used.

Any programmer knows how many things can go wrong from just a few changes in code. You tweak something in one place, it can potentially break things in 5 other places.

In a monstrous project like the Windows O/S, with a large development team, building on it without breaking it must have been a tremendous task. Now you have a system that carries over not only the bugs of the previous system, but also some new ones.

98 Second Edition arrived after, making things even more stable than 95. A good thing.

And then there was a build on top of that to create the disaster that is ME. If you've got the choice to move to another windows, take it.
