    Hi there. Okay, so I hate IE, since I received a browser hijacker less than a year ago I switched to Mozilla Firefox. I have microsoft antispyware to get rid of a few 'possible browser hijackers' from time to time, I'm assuming from IE, since I still have it on my system. Anyways before I start blabbering, here's the problem:

    When I use IE, I get tons of spyware pop-ups, I usually use the google search engine with Mozilla, but this time right after using Mozilla, I used IE, got a porn pop-up, and several pages of junk and porn type links unrelated to the search, but a few related pages 1 in every 5 links. IE broswer also has this crappy tool bar at the bottom, and antispyware always tells me it's homepage search wants to change from slkjfgkjsdlgkjsglksjglksjlk.com to asldkjalakjsdlakjdalkd.com all the time.

    ANYWAYS

    I've had a hunch, maybe due to earlier experience, that if I get rid of IE, my computer will cease to work.
    So, in task manager I shut down the IE process tree. This caused all my icons on the desktop to disappear as well of the start up toolbar with systems tray.

    I decided to open already opened programs through task manager, can't seem to get my toolbar/systems tray back. I tried reopening IE, but icons didn't come back. ANyways, what caused me to type this, si because I'm using IE right now, without that process tree a shut off. I have no pop ups, no crappy toolbar at the bottom, seems pretty good?!

    so. what's my computer's problem? What would happen if I removed IE and installed it again? what's with the weird ie in my process tray that makes all my icons and tray disappear?

    thanks in advance ^__^ I'm going to restart now I guess.. sigh

    Internet Explorer is basically "warped" in the windows base system, it's like wanting to uninstall Windows Media player from the computer. What you could have closed is "explorer.exe" which is the base systemprogram that allows the startmenu, icons and such applications to work.

    If you experience that again, open the taskmanager, choose "Archive", "Run" and type explorer.exe. That should bring back your start menu.

    Well, about Internet Explorer. Just ignore it, and use Mozilla and/or Opera for the sake of cookies and mankind. :)

    I had the same problem as you, except I didn't remove the IE process tree. I had all this junk and porn popups also everytime I used IE. Obviously I had spyware and my homepage kept changing.

    I suggest you keep using Mozilla firefox instead of IE. Most of your problems are probably because of Spyware so try sweeping your computer with a spy removal system.

    I'm not sure about the icons and toolbar because I haven't had that problem yet.

    Sorry I couldn't give you much info. ^_^;

    I don't use IE, but some things like msn are connected to IE. The reason I opened it was to view a website that didn't show properly in Mozilla. and yes Teddz, it was explorer.exe. :dizzy2: But that doesn't explain why when I opened an ie browser window through the task manager (after I shut down explorer.exe), that there were no pop ups and no stupid ie toolbar.

    thanks for the replies ^__^

    Oh well, glad it got cleared up.

    Internet explorer is a mystery to all of us. Enough said.
