An anime about the famous "star crossed lovers" is set to air in April of this year.

I watched the Teaser trailer and it seams to be interesting. I have always liked the play Romeo and Juliet.

The story is different from the original from what I have read. It still has the family battle. The tragic ending. Not sure if Tybalt is the same though. He better be.

I for one will check out a few episodes.

Leonardo DiCaprio in Romeo and Juliet has still left a bad taste in my mouth. I thought it was “good” back then but really that was only because I had a crush on him.

We watched that movie last year when we were studying Romeo and Juliet.
I can't wait till it comes out. Looks cute.

    o_O;;;

How much are they screwing around with the story?

Cause Romeo and Juliet is one of those stories I go all purest ***** about.

Eh...Juliet looks cute...but I don't know if I'm a big fan of the changes. I guess I could give it a chance, but the idea of what's happened to the Capulet family annoys me.

Btw, as for the movie with Leonardo, that happens to be one of my favorite movies ever. >:[ Not because of Dicrapio...when I saw the movie I had an absolute hatred for him. But he didn't bother me. I was too blown away by the visuals...and the amazingly well done death scene. D: Baz Luhrman is a fantastic director...Moulin Rouge was visually stunning as well...

It is hard to say until you watch it. We can see how the story changed but until it is out we won't really know.

I'm impressed that someone would take on the task of doing Romeo and Juliet but I am also deeply saddened by the changes they are making to story. My worst fear is that Mercutio won't be as amazing.

A change in speech is compeltely different from a change in actual story and characters, Bashi. =/

And Ia gree Zako, about Mercutio. Actually, my worst fear is that he'll be cut altogether, along with Tybalt. If those two aren't there...I'll be mighty pissed. =/

    According to ANN

    Fumie Mizusawa as Juliet
    Takahiro Mizushima as Romeo
    Aya Hisakawa as Portia
    Ayako Kawasumi as Emilia
    Hirofumi Nojima as Francisco
    Kouji Ishii as Montague
    Kousuke Toriumi as Curio
    Miyu Matsuki as Cordelia
    Ryotaro Okiayu as Tybalt
    Ryou Hirohashi as Antonio
    Sayaka Ohara as Hermione
    Shinnosuke Tachibana as Benvolio
    Tetsuya Kakihara as Mercutio

Though how well they play a part isn't known. I doubt they will change the charactistic of the people.

I am glad they changed the storyline. Because after a while it gets old. No matter how great a play, movie, or etc is. After so many of them I believe they have to change some of the storyline.

Also March 18 is episode one special premiere.

Aya Hisakawa and Ryotaro Okiayu!? O____O

    *loves on them both*

Well at least Mercutio and Tybalt are still there. Okiayu will make a fine Tybalt, he has an awesome range. He did Shigure in Fruits Basket AND Scar in FMA. O: Talk about different characters!
And Hisakawa's good no matter what she does.

However....Emilia? That's a character from Othello. Are all these new characters named after characters from other Shakespeare plays? :x

This hits a nerve with the Brit in me.
While I don't want a this classic to be screwed with as it's a pretty decent story...You now, for a Romance and that silly rubbish I am intrigued to see how it will be handled.
    Mercutio better be good...

Ryotaro Okiayu is the voice actor from Bleach. Kuchiki Byakuya.

I can't say I hate any of those voice actors. All the animes that I have seen I never complained or felt that they were annoying.

I guess the English Voice actors are way more annoying.

No clue on if they are named after characters from other plays. Maybe we should pull up a list of characters.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeo_and_Juliet#Cast_of_characters

My guess is many are to fit the story.

Like Emilia may be Juliet sister.

What happened to Count Paris? Though her mother is dead now...
