Fansubs KIBA "Weekly Anime Discussion"

My fellow moderators, members, administrators, and etc. thanks to fudge_monkeys idea a group of Moderators have decided to start a weekly discussion on certain Anime. To make this short first up is KIBA episode 1.

I personnel picked KIBA because it got me hooked from the beginning. The main character is one of those hard and bad characters. But not really bad maybe misunderstood. He goes around breaking doors.

KIBA is about an overbuilt world where young Zed dreams of freedom and of a door. While fleeing the authority of his world, he is transported to a completely different place, a world of nature instead of machines. There he meets the young girl Roia and learns that he is a Shard Caster. He can cast Shards and control “Spirits”. Zed becomes enmeshed in the ways of this new world, while growing into his new abilities.

Everytime someone watches anime on youtube, I die a little inside. Of course that's another can of worms. Good Idea though to stimulate some conversation and introduce people to any hidden gems.

 

Gotta say Zed's got the whole emo thing down pretty good with the melencholy attitude and the mascera eyeliner. His mom shares similar traits (when she isn't staring vacantly into space or watching jellyfish). Looks like the 'demon' or whatever inside of him is the same way. His best friend is someone he would never admit to it, and wouldn't you know, is terminally ill. The city they live in is dark, brooding and a place where no wind blows. A place where authoritarian figures rule with an iron fist and everyone else is forced into either submission or capture.

Which is kinda funny considering the place that Zed's trying to escape to is lush, green, and reeks of Magic Knights Rayearth or even El Hazzard.

Well all emo aside (as well as the strange habit of busting down doors) this looks like it might be kinda fun. 'Cause I have all the torrents ( xP ) I'll be following this series for a while just to see where it goes. Seems a little over the top and rather generic with the fighting in so far (Ha ha! I am old and expirienced so I'll have a personally insightful, yet totally distracting moment in the midst of a battle and still come back and win with a witty retort and nary a scratch on my old head).

I'll have to watch more before I can give my final verdict.

The doors I believe represent what keeps Zed where he is at. He breaks them because he is looking for the one that allows him to be free.

Which makes me think that Noa is following after him. He wanted to live his life until he dies because he wants to be "free."

Heh. I never thought of that. I was thinking something smaller like Calm is cramped and there is no breeze where as is Tempura open and there is a breeze. So Tempura would be freedom.

Adding on to what Wert said. I think the names are strange. The city of Calm is calm as in no breeze but the city itself isn't calm. Or it doesn't appear to be.

I first thought Tempura from temperature which means that the city would fluctuate which it doesn't. Tempura is actually a classic Japanese deep fried batter-dipped seafood and vegetables. Which makes the name weird.

It makes me wonder about Zed name means. No Zed but there is a version from it which means ”God's justice ...”

Which is rather funny considering Noah’s ark. Noa ya know. Heh.

Anyway never thought the show was EMO. I guess I never thought people who didn’t care were EMO. To me Zed was more misunderstood. I can see how he is considered EMO now though.

What brought me into the series was the fact that the mother cursed the son. I found that rather strange. Then you find out that the mother lost her memories. Made me think “cursing your son and forgetting…great…mother of the year…*sarcastic*”

But now that I think about it.

Spoiler: the curse

I think it was meant for when he left. He left her behind. She can’t get to where he is at for certain reasons. But how is it possible for him to dream this before he left?

It appears that he is from Tempura. Well that world considering he has the ability to control shards. Well ya think so considering that thing on his arm.

The first episode doesn’t really explain anything. So I am glad that you give it a chance Wert. It was another reason why I watched more episodes. I wanted to figure out what was going on.

The songs I liked "Very Very" by Afromania (eps 1-13). It is the ending. After awhile the opening song "Sanctuary" by Nami Tamaki grew on me then it got changed.

Zed gets put into jail which makes me think that Tempura isn't quite as free as it appears to be.
