Anime Rozen Maiden

Did we have a Rozen thread already? Oh well, I don't wanna play thread necromancy. >> We won't die from two threads about one anime.


WHO LIKES ROZEN MAIDEN? O: It's a show about walking, talking, living dolls who are supposed to fight each other so they can become 'the perfect girl'. (the perfect girl being named Alice)

It is also the birthplace of the DESU meme. (if my work internet didn't block youtube I'd post a video called Desu Double Deluxe....oh wait, I posted it to my Livejournal once! 8D Go here now and watch the video, or SUFFER FOREVER NOMNOMNOMNOM.)


Anyways, I don't think since FMA has an anime gotten me so excited and touched me in so many ways. I cried so much during the last episodes of the Traumend season...even tho...

Spoiler: last episodes

I knew most of the dolls dying were gonna come back. Lol, I spoiled myself lots before watching XDD

Episode 10 of Traumend was the hardest D: And I didn't even care that much for that character (I liked her but not as much as others)

Also, if you are a fan, WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE DOLL? O: Mine is actually a tie between Kanaria and Suigintou. Kanaria because she's so cute and has THE WORST LUCK EVER and plus fighting with a violin = win. Suigintou is just BADASS and sooooo pretty. <: Right after tham has to come the twins (I prefer Souseiseki over Suiseiseki tho....probably because Sousei is obviously the most inspired by Alice in Wonderland, and, OMG SCISSORS <3) and then Hinaichigo and Shinku. Barasuishou is my least favorite, despite her appearance being one of my faves. Her personality is just so blah; as awesome a fighter she is, she had potential to be much more. Only in the last episode of Traumend did she have any sort of personality. Why couldn't we have had Crazy-Loves-her-Papa Bara throughout the rest of Traumend? Also, I don't like her because I happen to be a fan of Kirakishou who is...

The REAL seventh doll of the Rozen Maidens (Bara is a FAKE) and only has a 9 second long appearance in the anime, with a much larger role in the manga. She is....such a psycho. XD Lol, she stalks Suigintou! XD (she adores her unbelievably) Plus....WTF THAT'S A LIVING ROSE SHE HAS INSTEAD OF AN EYE. O_O;;;

This is one anime I have been meaning to check it out. Maybe if others want to discuss it I will bump it to number one.

 

Yes. Bump it to #1. It is a superb and beautiful anime, with wonderful characters.

This anime is one of those under the radar ones I find. Except at 4chan. heck, if it wasn't for 4chan I bet tons of people still wouldn't know it exists.

Hina. ;.; Father cuts off her link and she slowly stops working, until finally she's dead.

The part that hurt most was watching her speak to Tomoe about how happy she was to meet everyone and glad to have as much fun as she did as her body is twitching and doing that whole thing wind up dolls do as they're slowing down...

Here's a chronology of the deaths and what happens in the last episodes:

Spoiler: death

Episode 9: Souseiseki dies.
Episode 10: Hinaichigo dies.
Episode 11: Suiseiseki and Kanaria die.
Episode 12: Suigintou and Shinku both die. Barasuishou has all the Rosa
mystica but then she's unable to handle the power and crumbles, thus being destroyed.
Rozen then revives the dolls killed by Barasuishou: Shinku, Suigintou, Suiseiseki and Kanaria. He does not revive Souseiseki or Hinaichigo because they were beaten by legitimate Maidens.

The legendary dollmaker Rozen was searching for the perfect girl, 'Alice'. In his quest to create Alice, he tried making dolls to be her, but all fell short. He made 7 of these rejectable dolls: the Rozen Maidens.

The seven dolls all have a frgament of a stone called the Rosa Mystica. It is this fragment that allows them to walk, talk, live. Once their Rosa Mystica is gone, they become normal dolls and are essentially dead. The Rosa Mysticas also seem to give them their specific power, for example, Suigintou fights with black feathers, Souseiseki uses a giant pair of scissors while her twins uses a watering can that makes trees and vines grow. When one doll takes another's Rosa Mystica, she gains her powers.

This is where the 'Alice Game' comes in. Since Rozen failed in making Alice this way, it was then decided to have the Maidens fight each other, and take the loser's Rosa Mystica. Once all the Rosa Mystica are gathered and theybecome one again, the doll who has accumulated them all gets to become Alice and meet Rozen. However the Alice Game can only take place when all 7 Maidens are awake at the same time, a feat that has never happened...yet.

There are more complexities. For example, each Maiden has an artificial spirit who helps them and their own 'N-Field'; their own 'world'. Each maiden also needs a human medium to supply them with energy.

The dolls are sent out to various humans who are asked "wind up? Or non wind up?" When the human who has selected 'wind up' winds the Maiden up, she comes to life and then offers the human to swear upon her rose ring and pledge to protect her Rosa Mystica. Once the human kisses the Rose Ring, he/she too receieves one and has officially made a contract with the Maiden that cannot be broken unless the maiden herself undoes it. The medium then supplies power to the Maiden that allows her defend herself against other Maidens who may wish to steal her Rosa Mystica.


Enter Jun Sakurada. Jun is a hikkomori (he suffered a traumatic experience at school that made him shut himself away. In the anime and the manga, this experience differs) who gets sheer delight out of ordering supernatural stuff online and then returning it before the grace period is up. He then accidentily orders one of the Rozen Maidens, the Fifth Doll Shinku. He reluctantly becomes Shinku's medium to save his life from a killer clown doll and thus becomes wrapped up in the Alice Game. Through his involvement with the dolls, he finds himself able to go back outside again...

In the first season we are introduced to 5 of the seven maidens; Shinku the proud and aristocratic Fifth, Hinaichigo the adorable and childish Sixth, Suigintou the vicious and Junk obsessed First, Suiseiseki the hyper active and devious Third, and Souseiseki, Suisei's much more clam and loyal twin, (also the Fourth). In Traumend we meet Kanaria, the self proclaimed 'most Intelligent Maiden' and Second Doll, along with the cold and powerful Barasuishou who introduces herself as the Seventh. With this, all 7 dolls are awake and the Alice Game should begin.


However only two of the dolls are honestly willing to kill their sisters and take their Rosa Mysticas. The others would rather not fight and would rather just live happily with their mediums and sisters. This leaves most of the dolls torn between their love for their sisters and their love for their Father, Rozen.


The series seems very dark but manages to be light despite the dark theme and is very, VERY funny. Case in point, episode 5 - where Suiseiseki, Jun, Hinaichigo and Shinku have a war on the stairs with hilarious consequences and methods. XD Jun's older sister Nori is also good for several laughs. The final episodes are very emotional, as I said. There is much original content as well.


Oh, there's also a 2 episode long OAV called Ouverture that explains the origin of the deep hatred betwen Suigintou and Shinku.

The second ending and my favorite. :>

 

It's a great series desu, and I like it's rather dark and yet, funny humour desu.

And I have to say that some characthers are really annoying desu (Suiseiseki...), but overall it's a good series desu.

Now go watch Overture and Traümend desu! RAUS MACH SCHNELL desu. As "we" german people would say desu.
