Window shoppers get what they deserve. With Anime in general you need to shop around a bit and pay attention to what you're purchasing. How many adult videos out there have similar cover art? If you don't pay attention to what you're buying then you're welcoming a rude surprise. It only takes five minutes to research the said title on the internet.

Besides I think the cover is cute xD

"Awww, how adorable... little neko murder victims~"

I think they're intentionally deceiving. Higurashi is a deceiving anime. The first episode, the crappy looking animation (Look at another one of that studio's series: Fate/Stay Night. The animation there is some of the best. The way Higurashi's animation is, is obviously an intenional artistic choice to probably put the viewer's guard down), the cute characters, it's all there to deceive you. So why shouldn't the cover be that way?

Now if ONLY the opening would've been like THIS. It'd be PERFECT.

Oh, so this was pointed out to me last night:

First, go watch the old opener if you haven't. Then, go watch the new one I linked to above. Finally, check this out (only pay attention to the first few seconds of the audio).

But FR that would give away to much. Though if they watched the first series by now we should know that something isn't right. It is very cute.

Baph that semas a little odd. It sounds like they are saying something...

So considering that the second series means resolution what will happen then?

I wonder why all of it started to begin with...

    BUMP

This deserves a bump. I plan on watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai during my break that’s coming soon. I wanted a good set of episodes because I can't wait to find out when the story arcs end. I would hate to wait a few weeks for death and mayhem. heh

    Anyway.

I am not sure if this is good or bad news.

Before we get to that in other news...

Higurashi no Naku Koroni Gaiden Nekogoroshi-hen (OAV)

    Its about

My understanding that it hasn't been seen yet and that its one episode long. No clue on when it’s out.

So for the good maybe bad news…

Higurashi no naku koro ni Live Action Movie.

    It’s announced for 2008.

It’s an adaptation of the first story. Onikakushi-hen. It’s the first four episodes of the first series.

Here is what I have may subject to change.

    Director: Ataru Oikawa

Has done a lot of horror movies.

    Gōki Maeda will play Keiichi
    Airi Matsuyama will play Rena
    Rin Asuka will play Mion
    Aika will play Rika
    Erena Ono will play Satoko

I got nothing on those actors/actresses.

Thoughts opinions on live action? and OAV?

Apparently season two got canned in Japan cause some kid went bonkers and started offing his classmates a la Higurashi. I know the carrier who was supposed to show the episodes said "Nah-uh". I haven't heard who (if anyone else) is picking it up now. I have my fingers crossed.

I cant remember where I read it at. Might have been here at BJP...

It's been out for three months now; Hauu fansubbed it.

Actually, that happened over two months ago, back when it was on something like episode 12; there's been at least one station still airing it (in spite of even a second similar incident), as they're now up to episode 18. I, however, have only seen up to 14, as my computer cannot play mkv format video. (I use VLC regularly, so it's not my player.)

Disappointed thus far with Kai (just finished the 3rd cycle, which runs from episode 6 - 13). The first episode was well done, giving a good backdrop and teaser for the series to follow, but it has just been dragging from there on.

What I loved most about last year's Higurashi (besides the excellent direction and presentation) was how suspenseful and supernatural the overall plot appeared to be. With each story Arc, more and more puzzle pieces emerged to answer certain questions, but it was always paced and met with the overall unknown.

Kai is a completely different tone. Where the original series barraged the mind with questions, Kai serves to deliver answers. And the result is removing any sense of horror Higurashi had and reducing it to purely suspense. It shoots itself in the foot by revealing all and is far tamer and less gripping than the original series.

I had high hopes after the first episode. I rode out the first cycle in hopes the next would improve, but by the end of the third story I'm wondering if I should continue into the second half. I probably will, just to get the entire picture, but I personally believe Higurashi was best left alone and open-ended.

Final thoughts on Kai: Somewhat interesting to watch, but overall mediocre in comparsion to the original series.

I still feel it cheapens the original set storyline to know all the answers, and Higurashi is a dish best served without knowing all the ingredients. I personally recommend Kai only if you are the sort of person who can't stand unfinished puzzles - a decent anime, but nowhere near as compelling as its predecessor.
