Inspired greatly by b-tuvs' genius, there is one story I just can't seem to get out of my head. The concept was "Riza's Parlor", a manga revolving around a high school girl who specializes in ensuring the dead stay dead. This over-the-top zombie hunter girl won me over with her crazy tools and potential for chaotic plots.

Crestfallen when b-tuvs himself declared he was shelving the project, I began entertaining the notion of moulding a story from his rough concepts.

I'm happy to have heard from b-tuvs himself that he's picking up the project again, and am looking forward to seeing the finished results. Unfortunately, those stories I began tossing about refuse to vacate my own grey matter.

So, I've decided to expel them as what I would classify as "fan fiction". This is an alternate "Riza's Parlor", and probably not tuned to b-tuvs' brilliant vision. This is the version of the story ala BakaMattSu.

The story roots begin here, with the introduction of Sol and his long past relationship with his grandfather:

And now, Riza makes her appearance:

This a a great first meeting of the two.

It's great that you were able to write and get it out. But I hope there is more to come.

A short snippet, still carrying the introduction of the story. I'm expecting a completely lighter mood once the main story picks up.

Its getting good. I have a feeling the "date" isn't a date. Good one BMS. As always your work has your flare all over it.

I ended up wanting to place my version of Riza's Parlor in a believable location but really didn't have an idea where to start. Originally brainstorming possible generic sounding names for the cemetary featured in this part, I couldn't seem to come up with anything fictional that sounded natural.

I ended up turning to a google map search to find something real in the Tokyo area. I settled on Zoshigaya cemetery, a public cemetary that should do well for the story's setting as it reportedly welcomes those of any religion, and having multiple angles of faith to potentially draw from in a story about the dead is fantastic to say the least. Zoshigaya placed the setting within Toshima, which worked out well considering about a 12 minute walk away is Yashima Gakuen High School. So you could say that is unofficially the school where the story takes place. Not officially, since I know absolutely nothing about it, other than it's in Toshima, and 12 minutes away from Zoshigaya. :)

By sheer coincidence, Zoshigaya continued to have influence on my story. Since a cemetary isn't exactly convenient to navigate for a meeting, I wanted some sort of landmark where Riza would set their encounter. A registry of famous figures buried there brought up some interesting names, but the one that fit like a glove was Soseki Natsume, attributed to the tidbit I picked up mentioning that just about every young educated Japanese child has been exposed to "Botchan". I haven't yet finished reading the book, although I found an amusing translation of it online (apparently translated over the stretch of a single month). As a literary piece primarily focusing on morality, I have a feeling I may revisit this writing at a future time to draw more parallels and insert allusions from my story to his - plus, Botchan is fairly short, and funny :).

Back on track - Riza's true motivations are finally revealed as Sol shows up for a date and gets tossed into something far different than he ever would have imagined...

This section was a long time coming, since it was a section I felt important for the story advancement, but wasn't a particularly interesting segment to write. I think of it as the midway hump to the meat of the plot - as Sol begins to wise up to the fact that things just aren't right.

Herein also lies the introduction of Yugi, which will hopefully help, as it brings a larger dynamic to the story.

Wow, has it really been three years? Here's a new Arc, "Sol Posession". It's not meant to follow directly from the Introduction Arc, but a bit down the line, after getting more comfortable with the character's and Riza's routine. Here we deal with the first non-zombie encounter as well as a strange mishap between Riza's equipment and Sol.
