    *Some Spoilers*

Well... I saw Evolution yesterday. I thought that the acting was quite good, Chatwin was good as Goku. There were a few lines by Goku in the movie that made me smile, he was able to capture the innocence of Goku especially prior to DBZ. Emmy Rossum also did a good job of Bulma, she didn't go into the movie without doing research first.

My issue with this movie is that it was only an hour and twenty minutes. It lacked character development, and probably left people who aren't familiar with Dragonball wondering "what the heck just happened?" at the end of it. There were many scenes that were cut short that could have been lengthened to help the story a bit. And also in the final battle, it just seemed like Goku beat Picollo too easily rather than the traditional him getting beaten the crap out of and then finding strength to win after I'm at the edge of my seat. THIS is what made the Dragonball anime popular and the same formula seems to be used in Naruto and One Piece. Perhaps there will be an extended edition down the road if this attempt at live-action does okay financially.

The arrival of the nameks and the origin of Oozaru was different in the movie from canon. However, in the Dragonball anime there was inconsistency and you find out what Goku's actual past is when Raditz comes to meet his brother. They didn't intend the story to be exactly like the anime, Akira Toriyama himself said that it's like Dragonball set in an alternate universe.

The movie seemed like a recap, like "On the last episode of Dragonball Z!" They could have gone straight into Dragonball Z and left out Dragonball, but they wanted to introduce the audience to Goku's character. The next movie has already been Green Lit. Maybe they will do something different with the next one, and maybe the budget will be big enough to make it 2 hours. I can't see him fighting Raditz/learning about the Saiyens, dying, getting trained by King Kai and defeating Vegeta all in an hour and twenty minutes. They just better keep in the "IT'S OVER 9000!!!!"

    I watched it yesterday.

Got to admit I felt that there should have been more background information and better fight seen. But the graphics were great.

I am glad for a sequel. Bring in a bigger budget and really work with DBZ story.

Worth watching? Wait til DVD. :p

I'm just going to go with what That Guy said.

The movie is too short for its own good, and after something *cough* happens to Gohan, it feels like everything starts going to 120mph, and everything just feels cut short.

    Here's hoping to the future!

"Fox's "Dragonball: Evolution," managed only No. 8 in its domestic debut, grossing an estimated $4.7 million from 2,181 theaters. Studio had limited expectations for the film, which was narrowly targeted to boys." Variety.com

So, even though they had limited expectations for it there are still talks about making a sequel eh. Hopefully they listen to the fans for the possible next one, and don't call it something stupid like "Dragonball Reborn".

Whatever That Guy says is Gospel.

    Srs

Though the question begs to be asked: Can they get a name any weirder than Dragonball Z? I mean, step back and objectively look at that. It's an absolutely rediculous name.

LOL, it's an odd name. And another thing is, should we call the "Z" zee or zed? In Japan I'm pretty sure it's zed. Does it really matter? Not really...

I do have to say, though, that these guys had some big dragonballz for actually trying this project and even bigger if they're sticking with a sequel.

I would love to see a live action Anime movie that doesn't suck. Video Game movies and Comic book movies are picking up the how-to's, but I've yet to see an effective Anime based film that didn't make me want to stick sharp things into my eyes.
