I finally completed my SMJ DVD collection. Which is nice. But, I have a few questions. Okay.
    1) The last episode. What the hell happened there? Why did the Mesmotopia fire them back to Terra II? Is this explained in SMJ Again? Which leads me to my second question...
    2) SMJ Again and SMJ to X. What's the deal with them? Are they good? What're they about? etc. And lastly...
    3) Saber Marionette R. I have heard conflicting things about it, but I've taken it that it is not following the same story as SMJ. Anyone seen it? Is is good? What's the story?

Well that pretty well covers it. Help will go appreciated.

    The most common SMJ question...

    *crack his knuckles*

    Yay, I got here first!!

    1) Unfortunately, this is not fully explained. In the J recap episode of J to X, Hana's interpretation is that the Mesopotamia had finally found love, and wanted to return them to Otaru. I still think it's open to interpretation. The only real clue is Luchs' comment. "The Mesopotamia is crying"

    2) J Again is an OVA that was released in 1996. It's a story six episodes long, detailing the events of a planetary crisis.

J to X is the second season of J, and I'm almost tempted to go into my usual rant again regarding how freaking long Bandai-Visual has taken to release it after capturing the rights. I still haven't seen past 15, and I may not for a long time still....Gaah. *mooooan* *whap head on desk* *whap* *whap* *whap*

If you liked J, you'll want to follow up with these two. They're both good (though not as good as J IMHO) and worth adding to your collection...:)

    3) R was the first anime based on the SM story. It's far different in feel from J, taking place in a different country, a different time period, and with different characters. Not a bad anime, but not in my highly treasured collection. You'll probably want to see it, but maybe not own it.

The story revolves around a fight for the Romanan throne. An army led by the mysterious StarFace invades the country. It seems the only one who can stand up to him is the young Junior and his otome kairo equipped marionettes Lime, and Cherry.

    SMJ info

    >I finally completed my SMJ DVD collection. Which is nice. But, I have a few questions. Okay.
    >1) The last episode. What the hell happened there? Why did the Mesmotopia

    Mesmowhat? :p

OK, sorry it's just that i love to correct spellings :anime:

    >fire them back to Terra II? Is this explained in SMJ Again?

Well this answer isn't covered in J again. Maybe in J to X chapter 5, where Hanagata makes a resume of SMJ.
To answer this, i may need to point you to the "Saber Marionette ORIGINAL NOVEL". Here the Mesopotamia didn't cause the accident. In fact she was the FIRST maiden circuit. Due to some problems with Faust (and the fact that Lorelei did die in the novels), Lorelei's brain cells were kept in cryo for Mesopotamia to clone them. Anyway - at the end of the novels, the marionettes DO stay with Otaru (at least Lime).

Which.... leads to the conclusion. Why did the Mesopotamia (in the TV series) send them back to Terra II? Well. Because the Mesopotamia wasn't just a machine, but a person, with feelings - like Lime, Cherry and Bloodberry. So, in an act of compassion, knowing that the marionettes wouldn't be happy without Otaru... she sent them back to him. (my theory of course)

    ---

    >Which leads me to my second question...
    >2) SMJ Again and SMJ to X. What's the deal with them? Are they good? What're they about?

J Again is a small OVA (6 chapters) about a lonely marionette named "Marine" which stays with Otaru and Lime,Cherry,Bloodberry,Luchs and Panther. And a plasmatic crisis that is about to destroy the planet. Doesn't add much to the series (well, some international plots and stuff like that), but if you want to see the saber dolls in bikinis (slurp!), this one's for you :D

J to X. In my humble opinion, the BEST of the series. Why? Because we have marionettes with completely developed personalities. Check this out: Cherry finds a lonely baby and adopts him - Lime makes friends with a fairy, and Bloodberry falls in love with a guy who looks very similar to Otaru. An evil faust appears, making the saber dolls confront their new marionette friends. And the real bad guy is Dr. Hess who is behind Faust. He wants the marionettes for.... (evil plot here). Near the end, we find out that Hess' story is much deeper than we thought... really cool!

Also, the possibility of the marionettes becoming human is a real one. Female clones are about to hatch... and speaking about birds & bees... who will be Otaru's girlfriend? See at the end! You WILL cry, that's a fact :anime:y

This series is more focused on feelings, love, and reflection. What makes us human?

I really recommend you watching JtoX. It's just awesome!

etc. And last, but not least...

    >3) Saber Marionette R. I have heard conflicting things about it, but I've taken it that it is not following the same story as SMJ. Anyone seen it? Is is good? What's the story?

SMR is about 200 (or 300?) years after JtoX. It's located in Romana. The good guy is Junior, the emperor's son (yes, son - not clone) and his 3 child marionettes (Lime, Cherry and Bloodberry - whose appearance has nothing to do with SMJ). Starface (or scarface?) has his own 3 sexy marionettes. The story is good and also funny. But doesn't match SMJ. No, sir.

Well, that's refreshing. They're getting DirectTV at my grandma's again, so I can try to tune in to J to X whenever I can. ^_^

I've only seen J eps 10-25, but I don't feel that pushed toward getting any more of SM. Dunno why... ^^ I mean, I really did love it. It was whitty (sp?) and emotional, but I dunno. (Maybe I've lost interest…) If you'd asked me if I'd get them last semester, I would've gone insane saying that I would. (Aheh..::blush:: :D)

My interpretation on the Mesopotamia returning the marionettes to Otaru was (and I thought this before I read these comments) that either the marionettes convinced it to release them, or that it saw their sadness and returned them. (The former was my very first thought) But I guess I was wrong...

Anyway, thanks for the summaries. :catgirl:

    ;) Silly Rick. ^^;

That's cute, the Lime dying thing. ^^ Almost enough to make me cry and come back in a full. Right now I'm more into Megami Kouhosei—but that's not for this particular board. ^^

I'm still gonna write for SMJ. Or, at least, finish what I've started. Nyaa… I just had a thought. ^^ I'll go put up a topic for it elsewhere!! ^_^ :catgirl:

    Cheers for the info.
Stardust, you should get the other episodes. It's worth it, ya know?
Just another question to add to this.
    4) How long after ep 24 did ep 25 take place. It was obviously long enough for Otaru to start a school, and all other junk to happen, but if that is so, then why Mesopotamia(sorry about the spelling before, I just kind of guessed it) take so long to send the marionettes back to Terra?

    Re: SMJ info

Actually, J Again was released in Japan between October 1997 and June 1998, according to Hanami's SM World (which luvweaver links to in the "quote" below)

Ah yes,Hanami's SM World...Technically,though,only J to X has complete episode synopses. The SMJ section only has a synopsis for the first ep.,and I'm not sure about J Again...

Ep. 25 picks up where ep. 24 left off. The marionettes boot Otaru off of the Japonessguar, and kick the Mesopotamia's @$$,then sacrifice themselves to rescue Lorelei.

However,I think you're referring to the halfway point in the ep.,where it changes from Otaru watching pieces of the Mesopotamia self-immolate on reentry to Hanagata teaching those kids (including his own brother! :sweat2: ),with the commercial break stuck in between for good measure. In which case,I would say that my best guess is however long it took to get the paperwork through the bureaucracy. :D

    Yes, that's right. I was thinking J when I typed that for some reason... J in '96, J Again in '97, the J to X in '98....

Wait up, 98? How come it's 2002 and I still haven't gotten hold of those....:(
