It is confirmed a few hours ago that another quake has occured in the Indian Ocean very close to the epicentre where the first quake happened, which triggered the Tsunami disaster.

Measuring a hefty 8.7 on the richter scale (compared to 9.0 which caused 300,000 deaths in December), the quake this time struck a bit further south off Aceh province. The Nias islands closest to the quake seems to be worse hit with hundreds feared dead.

Concerns of another tsunami was quickly dissipated by experts. Although people are still unsure, and understandably so.

Seems like the region is rather unstable. Experts are currently investigating whether this earthquake was an aftershock of the last or is of a fresh concern. Either way, both quakes originate from the same fault line which seems very active.

Was this a new shift, or an aftershock of the earlier one?

This sucks though, as people there have already had to deal with that 9, and now this...

The news is still rather premature... Experts still trying to figure out what caused this shock. The main Sumatra island I heard was unaffected.

Sad really, any more of this the those people in those hard-hit areas can't go on.
