gamepolitics.com also has some info on this, if penny arcade hasn't fully destroyed them for the time being.
the penny arcade news archives have info, as does vgcats.com/jack.html

i guess a few ground rules need to be set, as i don't really want anything horrible coming out of this.

1.) any ad hom that isn't a direct quote from jack with link citing the quote will be deleted. do not resond to it, just report it and the offender will recieve a wave of warnings.

not that they wouldn't normally be deleted, but i don't want us sinking to the same level in this. a little more so than usual.

2.) if you claim he said something, or someone else said something, quote it with a link verifying. posts without such will be deleted. i'll allow quoting of a quote another person provided the information before as long as it is an actual quote from the same page as your new post.

3.) if you say something that would actually give him grounds for a case, have fun. i am in no way a lawyer and cannot help you in any way, shape or form.

    4. off topic conversation is allowed as long as it is still pertanent to the topic at hand. like, being distracted by an interpretation of a law is fine, as that's kind of at the heart.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

so, what's every one think of this then? is jack right? what is he trying to set out to do? is he trying to better the moral value of games, or is he trying to rid them from the world via blaming all of childrens social problems on them? is he just off his rocker? remember, he first vocalised on tv when the hot coffee mod was announced, and in so many worlds took it upon himself to be the solution to this cause. CNN should have something on that, seeing as he's been on there multiple times now.

    Discuss.

In all honesty, I think that Jack Thompson is a bit of a joke. Although to certain children and teenagers with mental defections, these kinds of fantasies could make them believe it's something they should do, it's the parents that need to watch their kids instead of letting them walk through the door a game with a big "M" in the lower left-hand corner. Everyone with at least a handful of brain cells knows what that stands for. And yes, I know many places don't follow the rule that even if they buyer isn't eighteen, they'll still sell the game to them (it's happened to me, though ironically lately the stores of have been cutting down on this harshly where I live, thankfully I'm 19 now).

Really, though... I'm not sure just how seriously Jack Thompson is taking this. At first I thought he was just a goofball, but once you read the responses that both Mike Krahulik and Scott Ramsoomair, you can see that eventually Jack dwindles himself down to nothing more but meager, childish remarks that bring me back to my elementary school days.

I am an avid World of Warcraft player and I just so happen to play on the same server and in one of the many Guilds with a huge Penny Arcade Fanbase, so obviously this discussion has come up numerous times and has swept over the Knights of Arcadia/Fancy Lads (the two main guilds) forums and it wasn't like that this website surfaced (not sure how old it is but it's the first time I've seen it)

    http://gr.bolt.com/articles/violence/violence.htm

Jack is a joke and the more and more we see of him we can tell that he's not going anywhere with his crusade (the GamePolitics site shows how one of his supporters severed their ties to him already because of his embarassing "satire" (or what I'd like to call cheating a hopeful charity out of 10,000 dollars which Mike and Jerry have generously donated themselves on behalf of Jack))... but Mike said it best.

Hope this post satisfies the requirements.

    EDIT:

By the by, BB, the link you posted isn't working for the Scott/Jack link. This one should work, though:

One can only assume the "or else" would be to sue for some sort of slander or libel, right?

Well Jacky, ever heard of a little case called New York Times V. Sullivan? Didn't think so, I mean, you're only a lawyer.
Basically it states that in order for a public figure (which you voluntarily became by appearing on NBC as well as other news casts) to sue for slander or libel they have to prove that the media outlet:
    (A) Knew They were lying
    (B) Made the comments out of malice and disregard for their falsity.

Hew can't prove a the truth is false and therefore, the comments couldn't have been made out of disregard for their falsity.

Even though he's a lawyer his own case collapses.
