First off, for those who don't know, I live in a mobile home. This means we don't have a basement, instead we have a crawl space underneath the house where the supports hold it off the ground and level, and also where our cable lines come up from. Also, the source of this entry, is there.

Our dryer wasn't working properly. It would take upwards of 40 minutes to dry the smallest of loads, and usually didn't do so properly. So, the first thing we did was pull the dryer out from the wall. The lint trap was empty, so that wasn't the problem. We pulled the hose from the back of it, (it's a big, flexible white thing), and couldn't find any kind of blockage in there. It had to be a blockage, or the dampness would have escaped through the hose. Unfortunately, it curves underneath almost immediately upon entering the floor.

So, we had to go into the crawl space. Now, it's not terribly awful in there. If you're claustrophobic, I can see how it would be. Anyway, pulling off a piece of the skirting for the house, I crawled over the cable wires, and underneath the house. Doing this reminded me of a certain story published on Something Awful, by a user named 'Martin Random,' about an insane roommate. Certainly my story is no match for his, but it did remind me of it.

Well, crawling my way to the dryer hose, it had slipped out of its mounting to the vent that blows the air out of the side of the house. Our hose consists of the flexible part I mentioned, and a long, inflexible piece, that extends to the vent. There was a dip in the flexible part, and here a large amount of water had collected, as well as a fair bit of lint build up. Sokaed with water, it resembled a pile of muck more than anything else. Not to mention the fact of the omnipresent smell. Entering and exitting the crawl space, it smelled like something had died and was half-rotted. The smell was blessedly absent from the interior of the crawl space, but entering and leaving was rather pungent.

Anyway, taking apart the hose, I cleaned out the water and the build up, and put it back together with some duct tape. Then I just had to make sure it was level so it wouldn't build up like that again. Simple stuff.

...No, no insane hobos jumped out at me with a wrench. And no escaped prisoners were down there. It was completely routine, and nothing went out of the oridinary, apart from that smell. I still don't know what it was.

    I'm boring, didn't you know? :p

You know, if some of the stuff I was guessing over MSN had happened instead of this, you'd have a lot more comments on this entry right now XP
