For once I'm not just being stupid.
Last night I coordinated my desktop icons to match my latest wallpaper. It looked really nice. Still, I had a problem. When I restarted my computer, the icons had reverted to their Windows default. So I fixed them up again. Then the next time I restarted, Windows default again. It's just annoying.
A friend of mine says there's probably something re-writing desktop.ini or something like that, but neither of us has a clue as to what is causing that.
Also, it is worth noting that the problem only applies to My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places and Recycle Bin. Any shortcuts I've added myself change just fine.
Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this and how I could solve it?

Yeah, your windows shell. Your windows shell has a default set of icons that are set, because the shell is directly incorporated into your OS. For me, it's not really a big deal because I don't use icons, or when I do, I use IconPackager which changes every icon that I choose it to.

As for ideas on how to fix it...not really. You can try going into safe mode, doing into win32.dll and changing the default icons into the ones you desire. But, I *do not* recommend that because win32 is a valuable .dll file. Your computer won't run if it's too corrupted.
