[Don't read any further - MOVIE SPOILER]

I bought the new Akira Special Edition DVD. This movie is very nice. I loved the motorcycle chase scenes, the explosions, and the THX sound is incredible. I followed the movie very closely, since this was my first time watching it. However, some questions arose. I know this anime has been around since 1988 or something like that ... so I am sure you all have seen this one by now - especially since it is such a cult classic.

1.) When Tetsuo escapes from the mental military facility, he goes to a bar that & his biker buddies used to hang out in. He orders some pills from the bartender. What are those pills?

2.) Tetsuo begins to develop powers on an incredible scale that is called Akira, but The Doctor notices at the end when Tetsuo is out of control ... his brain waves are showing signs of the creation of the universe. This didn't make sense to me. Can anyone explain this further.

3.) When the dissected AKIRA reassembles himself, the destructive mushroom cloud begins to develop, and begins to destroy Tokyo. However, the three grey children take themselves into the cloud with TETSUO & AKIRA for some reason. Why?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I figured you guys/gals would know. Thanks.

As usual when it comes to such questions, I can't be of too much help as far as intelligent answers go. But I'm in a good mood, and I'm a take it out on you.
For my answer to the first question, I turn to the Detroit, Michigan rap group, D-12, and their song, "Purple Pills". My quote is "nothing compares to these blue and yellow purple pills". Maybe Tetsuo's like these guys: just a druggy. He was a biker living in a futuristic Tokyo, no?
Secondly, maybe Akira was supposed to be some sort of god?
    Third, I say "suicide pact"
Anyway, that's enough senseless babble out of me ... for now!

Yeah, I hear that there is a new version that is changed around a bit so it makes more sense. I have yet to see it though...

funny that it should be mentioned....I just watched Akira. Akira is extremely messed up, it is what is known as shounen anime. Shounen anime is bad ass or messed up stuff, sometimes with humour. Whereas Shoujo anime is stuff that has to do with love or humor, or anything not action oriented...

    Examples:
Shounen: Akira, Dragonball Z, Ghost in the Shell

Shoujo: Love Hina, Sailor Moon, etc.

A lot of people(that I know of anyways) like Shoujo anime more. Probably because they love humour in anime.

I must disagree on those classifications, mainly because Love Hina is a Shounen anime (its target audience is male) Really, that's the only way to distinguish, Shounen anime is targeted at males, Shoujo anime is targeted at females. Sometimes they try to attract cross audiences too, and that confuses matters a little, but none the less, the target audience is what determines what 'type' of anime it is, from those two types, that is.

    <Edit>
Forgot to mention this, just look up the meanings of Shounen and Shoujo sometime, they mean Boy and Girl, respectively.

Oh okay...squaregamer forum misleads me [IMG]

    Dim edit as String
edit = "Okay, I forgot to metion too that I knew the definitions of Shounen and Shoujo being boy and girl...although I didn't want to upset anyone by saying, for example, that Sailor Moon is a girly show and off limit to boys or anything. I watch Sailor Moon meself [IMG] "

Like I said, there's a lot of cross-'genre' if you will. Personally I watch several 'Shoujo' series, Fushigi Yuugi and Kodomo no Omocha to name two, among all the series I watch.
