I haven't actually read it myself, but a few of my friends have been giving it nothing but good reviews, so I'm tempted to give it a try. What's the storyline?

Alice like this Guy named Kyo, but so does her sister. Her sister asked Kyo out and he said yes(only not to hurt her feelings). Alice is a bit hurt, But she finds the power of Lotis. Her sister gets brought into Darkness. And I can't exsplan things well it's better if you just read vol.1.

Well, there's a bit more to the plot than that....

Anyway, I like Alice 19th. The art is, like all Yu Watase works, beautiful. Alice as a character is a bit more, I don't know, realistic to me than a lot of magical girls or anime/manga heroines. Perhaps it's because I can see a lot of my own personality traits in her.

Basic rundown of plot (without too many spoilers, hopefully)...

Alice and Mayura Seno are sisters, and they both attend the same school. Mayura is older and quite popular, while Alice is rather shy and doesn't speak up for herself. Alice tries to please everybody, but even so doesn't seem to have many close friends. Most people know her as Mayura's little sister.

Alice has a crush on Kyo Wakamiya, a very handsome and popular guy at school. However, she isn't very good at expressing her feelings so she has never told Kyo that she likes him. Then Mayura tells Kyo that she likes him, and Alice backs off, not wanting to hurt her sister (Mayura is the favored sister at home as well).

One of the things Alice wants is a pet, but Mayura is allergic to animal fur, so Alice has never been able to have a pet. One day she sees a rabbit in the middle of the road and she rescues it. This rabbit turns out to be a Lotis guide, and she teaches Alice that certain words have power (these are known as Lotis words). The rabbit then tells Alice she is destined to become a Lotis master.

Yeah. I hope that summary isn't too confusing. It's essentially the setup in the first volume, but I didn't cover anything that happens afterwards. I highly recommend this series to people. Viz seems to be doing a decent job with the translations as well, but since I haven't seen the original Japanese I can't say for sure.

I've only read the first two volumes, but I already love it! Am I the only one who thought Mayura came off as a bit of a spoiled brat?

Oh, Mayura is a total spoiled brat (IMO). Her parents always let her have her way, and while she doesn't seem to abuse this priviledge, she has to know that it's there at least on a subconscious level. So she is going to use it to the best of her advantage.

I'm hoping her character will develop a bit more as the story goes on. I mean, I know that Alice is the main character, but Mayura is incredibly important and at the moment she comes off as spoiled, spiteful, and demanding. Not exactly the prettiest character traits out there.
