Inu-Yasha Am I the only one who dislikes Kagome?

Like who you like, but I really dislike Kagome. That annoying, miniskirted brat. Am I the ONLY one who dislikes her here? Kagome is INSANELY overrated. Just because she's the female lead doesn't mean you have to like her. Why not Sango instead? She's far more gutsy and proper than miss priss Kagome (I'm excluding Kikyo because you guys like to lift up your noses and go, "Hmph! I hate her! She should go to hell.")
I just feel left out here, IS THERE ANYONE ELSE WHO FEELS WHAT I FEEL?

 

I highly doubt that you're the only one. If I ever took Kagome off my list, I would say that I also absolutely love Sango and Ayame and they would be at the top. Those girls are really tight! Very cool! Kagome is sometimes like that, no? (when it comes to Naraku, I guess). Nope, haven't noticed any attitude from her except that she gets angry with Inuyasha and that's it. It gets a tiny, tiny bit annoying that she's always saying "Inuyasha" cause she's always worried about him or that he's always on her mind but it's okay with me. I call Sango "Barbie" (don't throw things at me) because she has Barbie's voice in the dub and also because she's VERY pretty. I haven't thought of a nickname for Ayame but I'll try to find something better than "Barbie."

 

You're probably one of the only ones here. Certainly the only one to be brave enough to come out and say it. Kudos to you.

I disagree with you about Kagome, though. For starters, you mentioned that you hate her voice. You've only seen the dub, haven't you? She's much better in Japanese, though I personally don't have really any issues with her dub voice. You mentioned miniskirts. I feel the need to point out that the short skirt of her uniform is a standard set by the school. As for the rest of her clothes, it was the style at the time (the Inuyasha manga started coming out in 1997, and the manga itself starts in 1996 in the timeline, so it says on the first Modern Tokyo page).

Aside from those, I think she's one of the better female leads in anime and manga. She doesn't sit around whining all the time. She gets up and does stuff to the best of her abilities. Like learning to shoot the purification arrows so she can help in battles. She doesn't put up with being possessed, or kidnapped, and she uses her head. She also cares about people, and values her friends. Even though she has chances to go back home to study for her tests (good studious Japanese girl), she always comes back to the Sengoku Jidai to continue the search for the shikon shards because she promised (and because she broke the jewel in the first place).

These are my reasons for liking Kagome as a character. I encourage anyone who can express their opinion (either way, like or dislike) rationally, without shouting and flaming, to do so. Support Star Princess, or support your own stand.

 

Yes, I've only seen the dub. I do believe in what you say about her Japanese voice being better. I really wish people who do a better job with English voice acting.

I think your not the only one. Although I don't agree with you. I rather like Kagome. But Sango's cool too. I like Kaogme because of the same reason's as Kogarashi. I do think her japanese voice is better though.

Do you have any other reason's for hating Kagome rather than those that are the fault of the voice actor. (The way she says Inuyasha is kind of too girly). I think her uniform is cute. Better than those that go down to the knee's.

I don't hate Kikyou either.

 

Well, there are other reasons. I know she's caring and all, but there are other reasons why I don't like her. First of all, she acts very helpless at times- especially during the start of the series, and she sometimes acts like a coward (sometimes, not ALL the time).
Another reason: In the episode where Kikyo traps Kagome on the tree, and after Kagome saves Inu- Yasha, she gets extremely jealous of Kikyo, the woman who Inu- Yasha loved in the first place. Kagome wouldn't ADMIT that she was jealous, and (by her gestures) denied that she was jealous. I can't stand overly- jealous people in real life- especially those who always deny that their jealous and won't say why they're jealous at all. Those kind of people are hypocrites, and are very childish. I get jealous myself too (not constantly though), but I'm not afraid to admit it, and I always give a reason. I resent Kagome for that kind of behavior.
Another thing that bugs me about her is that she does not remember ANYTHING from her past life as Kikyo. It makes me think, "so much for reincarnation." -_- Also, she fights all the monsters, and yet she's afraid of stupid little caterpillars... It makes me think that she's pathetic.
Finally, the possible final reason: she's a stereotype. I know stereotypes are sometimes tolerable, but the kind Kagome is is not. She's the old, tired, classic shojo who all giggly, "happy-go-lucky-never-ever-sad" school girl. That kind of shojo is VERY old and needs to go. Sure, stereotypes are hard to replace, but it's always possible.

Those are my other reasons. That's probably all of them. I just can't bring myself to like her. She doesn't make my skin crawl when I look at pictures of her (especially the manga images), but I still can't love her as much as I love Kikyo and Sango.

i have to say that i dont care much for kagome. (my favorite female on the show is rin) but i dont really hate her. i havent had the chance to see inuyasha in japanese, even though i really want to. and if you dont like her miniskirt, you must not like the sailor scouts either, yes?

Yes, they were miniskirts too, but they have no choice but to fight in them. With miniskirts in general, I don't dislike them. They don't bother me at all (unless a character, or real person has thunder thighs). I just don't think Kagome's skirt is that pretty (yes, it's a uniform, but I've seen much better minskirts in anime- even with uniforms). I just called Kagome "miniskirted brat," because she wears a mininskirt and I think she's bratty (well, maybe not to you guys, but you know).

 

Okay the reason she acts helpless in the start of the series is because she IS helpless in the start of the series. I'm sure anyone else would be too.

And she does get really sad. Over Inuyasha most times. If you read all of the volumes of the manga you'll realize she can be really depressing.

Of course she can't remeber anything from her life as Kikyou, can you remember your past life? Okay maybe that's a stupid answer. But why would she need to remember. It's the same soul, just lives different lifes. If it remembered it's past life then what would the use of dying be?

As for not saying she's jelous Inuyasha never excepts he's jelous. That's the funny part.

Anymore reasons, this is fun.

personally I think all the female charcters have their flaws and good traits, so I really don't find any of them really super annoying.

Flaws


Kagome- she needs to be saved more than the rest of the charcters, how she always whispers Inuyasha's name

Kikyo- how she's constantly tring to destroy Inuyasha (forgive and forget already!)

Sango- how she colapses after most of the fights.

Good pionts

Kagome- Is kind and selfless

Kikyo- if you notice she is kind to other peolpe (ex: children) when Inuyasha is not there

Sango- how she stands up for what she belives in and is loyal to her brother

(Ayame and Rin were not included in this)

 

Nea-san, I notice your new. Well your off to a good start. Just jump in. Anyway I agree with u, mostly. Sango don't collapse after fights...not all anyway. Only the important ones. The one's where she get's really hurt. I'm sure u would too.

And i'm a SM fan too. I don't find the skirts annoying at all.

 

its true kikyou is nice to people when inuyasha isnt around. but i think it was wise to leave rin out of it. theres not much to be known about her yet, and she couldnt talk in the eps ive seen... and who's the other girl? ayame?

 

Ayame is kagome's friend from school. I like her. So is Eri. They're cool, but seldom seen, seeing as Kagome is in Sengoku Jidai mostly.
