Well, the eternal battle between AMD and Pentium Continues...

    Which one would you choose?

AMD all the way. Price/performance, they school Intel.

horrible news... intel and AMD have increased the Stage pipeline execution length

what in hell is that you ask?

Well, the Athlon XP had a 9 stage one... and the P4 a 20 stage one.

now they are 12 stages for AMD and 24~26 for the new Prescott

can you explain that to soemone that doesn't know what pipeline, in the computer sense, means? cause well...for the moment...that means nothing to me at the moment...

OK the reason why Athlon, in part, are so blinding fast even comparing clock speeds, ex. 2.16Ghz vs. 3.06Ghz while in apps being equally fast. It's because of it's short pipeline execution engine.

the longer the engine the more Mhz you get out of your CPU core architecture, BUT if your cpu core makes a faulty code the longer it takes to fix it. being only 9 stages long it only takes like 9~10 Hz to clean out, while 20 stages take around 20~23Hz. CPU make a lot of mis-predicts, (for the ideal % that should be) so imagine your CPU making 100's of mistakes... (this is VERY true in games) that would be 1000's of waisted Hz on the Athlon and 1200+ in the P4 arquitecture. (i'm using small quantities of Hz for example but actually is WAY more)
actually there not wasted the CPU can't do nothing in that time being

I have AMD Athlon and I really like it. Well I like it because of my games AMD are more specialised on gaming needs than Pentium.

Well, Intel is pretty good, but an 2200+ athlon will smoke a p4 with 2.53 mhz!!:glazed: AMD is a lot better for gaming and lets be honest people if you have a pc you are definitely gonna have games on it even if its only for business. AMD is clearly a much better choice.
