have any of you seen the family guy on Adult Swim, or any other show for that matter? american animation is always way funnier than some japanese fighter falling down with a big sweat drop on his or her head!!!!

Um, I don't think it's polite to come and flame Japanese animation at their section. Everyone has their own preference of likes and we just happen to like those big sweatdrops. Besides, it's not ALWAYS that that we laugh at. We laugh at a lot of different things, mostly how wacky the characters act which sometimes is a whole lot more appealing than American Animation.

I know everyone is entitled to their oppinion, but it sounds as if you haven't watched too much anime. Not only is Japanese animation much more appealing visually then American animation, I find it has better story lines and much better characters. Of course everything has its pluses and minuses, and we each have our prefrences, flaming something you don't know about just proves ignorance.

    ))((OP))((
BTW, I have seen Adult Swim, although some parts are funny, I hate the cartoons because of how poorly drawn some of them seem. I have only watched it once, but come on, is that the best America's got?

Every time this debate starts up, I'm glad, because then I get a chance to laugh at all the idiots.

It doesn't matter where the animation is made, because in both western and eastern animation theres crap and theres gold.

I mean, I love Family Guy, but I'd never watch Sabrina: The Animated Series. I love Macross Plus, but I absolutely abhore Macross 7.

Does that make Family Guy and Macross Plus equal? No, they are two different genres. You don't compare different genres, because its like apples and oranges.

And quite honestly, a typical episode of Excel Saga makes me laugh about the same number of times as a typical episode of Family Guy or Futurama.

In the end, all I care about is the storyline. Even if the animation quality is crap by todays standards, I'm fine as long as the story is good.

There's also the fact that you're comparing a comedic cartoon to a fighting anime. Not all anime is about fighting, and of course, if you like comedy better, Family Guy will probably win out. Oh, and the sweatdrop thing is pretty much just saying that what just happened is an embarassment or a stupid decision or situation. American Cartoons do it now too. Just watch one of the North American cartoons styled in an anime-set, I really wouldn't be surprised if they do.

Also, comedic peices are always funnier if you understand them. So, Family Guy's humor is aimed towards the American public. But, anime, of course, is trended towards Japanese humor. There'd be wordplay that you wouldn't understand because you don't know the joke. Like, in FLCL. On the whole, the series is great by itself, but the inside jokes and tag lines make it funnier too.

But, staying in your mindset, I think that North American cartoons like "Scooby Doo" or the Flintstones doesn't have the same romantic-comedic situations that appear in Love Hina or Ai Yori Aoshi. See...it just doesn't make sense.

Damn you Neph! You took what I was gonna say!

Neph and Izzy are a 100% right.

Fpor me it's all about taste. I go for anything children basically, like Yu-Gi-Oh (love, love, love!) and Sailor Moon for anime, and Fairly Odd Parents and Rugrats for american. I love Simpsons as well. And i remember growing up and being aboslutly in love with Popples, (I still love thoses little cuties).

And sweatdrops are awesome! Don't diss sweatdrops!

Well, so far the only name calling is from the guy who made this thread (not bad name calling but it's not polite either). But I guess this is an okay thread to "discuss" the topic as long as no one goes and calls someone else a bad name just cause their opinions are different. So you are right exitone-sama.

every bone in my body is saying "don't get involved, don't get involved...". but it hasn't been said yet. the thing that i can't stand about american animation is that they're always ripping off other cultures to try to get their laughs. (i'm thinking the simpsons, southpark etc.) and then other americans will turn around and just blatantly try to rip off the japanese style. this really annoys me.
You don't see the japanese animes belittling every other culture on the planet and copying the american style to tey to cash in on their market. They just do their own thing. and do it well (most of 'em:) )

I just wanted to post an apology if anyone took my comments wrong. Everything I said was based soley on my opinion, prefrences, and, of course, ignorance.

I understand what is coming across by other posters about storylines, ect., ect. Hopefully nobody took my post wrong, but if you did, I hope this clears it up just a little.

    Thank you.

Don't you all just get so pissed whenever someone blurts a false statement like that, thinking he's giving an opinion?

There's no kind of animation that's "always way" funnier than any other kind of animation. I can watch all kinds of American cartoon comedies, and all kinds of anime comedies, and neither side would ever be funnier... much less being "way" funnier than the other.

And judging from your low post count, your questionable username ("username"), your past posts (which include redundant threads like your THREE introductory threads in the Newbie forum, as well as posts made for the sake of raising your post count), and from invoking exiztone's dreaded warning, you could benefit from learning more about forum netiquette. For starters, simply watch what you say.

    Re: ???

Time to rip an argument to shreds! Cry havoc, and let loose the dogs of war!

And nobody survives plummeting off a several hundred meter tall cliff only to revive in perfect condition moments later, and nobody can paint a lifelike painting by simply waving a brush over a rock. What the hell is your point? Unrealistic crap happens all the time in American animation too, and "falling on head due to embarresment" doesn't happen in every anime series.

Hell no. "more down to earth". Precisely what do you mean? Do you mean less extreme in character reactions and such? If thats what you mean, you're dead wrong. There are down to earth, serious drama animes, just as there are ungodly silly and bizarre american cartoons.

Actually I bloody hate this argument when an incompetent debater starts it. I don't think ANYONE likes this, because invariably some bloody moron tries to compare something like Family Guy to Sailor Moon. A closer comparison would actually be Family Guy vs Excel Saga, but even then they're somewhat different. Excel Saga has a continuing plot, whereas Family Guy usually has the "at the end of the episode, nothing has changed" feel.

In Japanese series, people stay dead, and they die on the air too (for example, Macross' Roy and Ben Dixon [forgot the japanese name for him]). Not to mention, if a guy has two girls in love with him, at least one person is gonna end up broken hearted. I can't think of an American animated series that has that same maturity.
