this thread is also known as "I would be really embarassed to be from Ohio right now"

Ohio Congressman Kucinich uses a pie chart during a radio debate. Quoth the debate moderator: "Congressman Kucinich is holding up a pie chart, which is not truly effective on radio."

Bush lovers pray for this guy to win the democratic primary.

our governor is of course been caught lying about everything...geeeeezzzzzzzz...this is why i cant stand american politics....we truly are doomed if politics keep moving in this direction...funny how much the media over exagerrates everything as well...especially with the current presidents...now honestly i cant stand Bush or the descisions hes made but...i think a the same time the media is making too big of a deal about it. like President Kennedy, now there is a leader...but im sure he had his own problems and stuff he did like his affair with Marilyn Monroe...well, the press didnt make a big deal and i think that, that had something to do with the success of his term in office.

I would agree with your assessment that the media going nuts a bit. They did it with Clinton too..

Even the author of Doonesbury (a rather liberal comic strip) has lumped in the "current batch of Bush haters" with famous firebrands of the past like Newt Gingrich.

There was lots of stuff about Kennedy the media never made a big deal about. Affairs, sickness etc. Same with FDR. They all respected his wishes to not make a big deal about his polio. How things have changed. Unscientifically, I'd say it started with Watergate. Seems like a lot of trust and repect was broken then.

probably...but even tho the media did say things about FDR and Kennedy they werent as ruthless as they are now...they would tell the public but they respected what the President wanted...now they just go and search for every little scandal they can find...and i also noticed that if someone has a problem with like Bush or Clinton or any person in power they did say anything until the came to power...

The Sensational media we all know is not a product of the Watergate trials, but more likely a product of the times. It did not start during the Watergate trials, It started during the 1800s, more specifically the 1880s and 1890s. It was a product of ignorance, used to lure the immigrants who coming from rural eastern Europe(mostly) took it in and brought more(suprise suprise). Another big factor to it is technology(of course), newspapers were cheaper due to innovations in the printing process, allowing for cut prices in newspapers, and therefore creating fierce competition and price wars in which the natural result is the potrayal that you have more for less and so alluring headlines and sensationalism if inaccurate stories were used. Eventually America became more educated, the immigrants became less and the old arrivals became more intelligent in their buying and sensational journalism died being replaced by more reliable papers. The reason we did not see as much sensationalism during the Cold War is attributed to the Cold War itself, the tension and terror of it made everyone appreciate being informed a bit more, because they had a wealth of stories to keep them busy their was generally less about scandals and such. Once the Cold War ended the newspapers reverted once again to the tried and true sensationalism once again fueled by technology(internet, cable television etc).
