well i'd say the same for a foam weapon, if you use reality based techniques... and a whip shot, wrapping around to hit the back isnt reality based.. (but it is awesome to watch) amtgarders often use them, but i try to stay away from them since i'm using it as a supplement... dont wanna mess up the main thing im going for..

all i'm saying is that while an amtgard weapon isnt weighted perfect, doesnt kill, and allows some strikes that reality would'nt, the same applies to a foil..
and i definitely respect fencers.... i got demolished by one in a tournament once lol. (and i still intend to beat him at the next one :D )

anyway, the main difference between competition fencing and amtgard (dueling, not the magic and all the other stuff) that i see is instruction. in fencing, you can go to a school and learn from professionals. in amtgard, there isnt any one style, so you pretty much have to go to a dojo or fencing school to learn... then show up on saturday and test it full contact. (and i know theres rules about "baseball swings" but theres a big difference between a true strong strike and one with a big windup (the "rule" says you cant swing from so far behind you... the actual distance is a bit vague, but the wording is 90 degrees. THAT's clear, but the rule-enforcers tend to have different interpretations) so i go full contact heh.

I'm seeing a lot of "I can do all this" claims from this guy, along with lots of claimed "real" knowledge and training. Apparently he doesnt think that covering a finesse weapon with 2 extra inches on each side is enough to diminish its effectiveness, so that pretty much shoots down his claims that he knows so much.

And wait. You just said you got demolished by a fencer, yet earlier on claimed a LARPer could handle one easily? So if you knew from past experience that this wasn't true even with your supposed enhanced learning...

I call BS on this one, folks.

Edit: As far as "having" to go and learn real skill for swordplay for Amtgard goes, go rewatch the videos. Both of them will remove any doubt about the skill level of its participants. (And crying foul because I found a non-ad video that showed some real LARPing doesnt help you out)

Secondary Edit: Wait a second. Earlier on you claim you know people with a black belt in bushido? Remind me how you get a black belt in a manner of conduct?

Tertiary Edit: And real world, average weapons don't break nearly as often as yours do, and you don't even use full force.

and thus is why i'm now done with this thread. i've made my point and now it's gone into a discussion of larping again. it's really just not worth the effort.

my point exactly, if you read the post. also the point about not knowing what school of ninjutsu they practice? my meaning was fairly clear.

well seeing as how i was early in any fighting, and he already had a few years under his belt, not much of an example there. oh yeah, and i said "they would be about even"... takes more than that to "handle one easily"

No, no it wasn't clear or I wouldn't be confused as to how you get a black belt in a form of etiquette.

Yeah ok sure. It's always conveniently stacked against you. "HAY GUYZ IM IN A TOURNAMENT SO IM GOING TO FIGHT AN EXPERIENCED FENCER EVEN THOUGH THEY WOULDN'T BE IN MY CLASS OR CATEGORY"

If you think that finesse weapons are anywhere near as effective when you alter their size, the amount of power behind the blow, and technique used to fight, then...

Oh, forget it. LARPers are impervious to reason. I'm done with this thread.

now youre just making crap up lol. all i change is width and weight. i still hit just as hard and use the same technique i practice off the field
(and i know you'll quote a bit about striking weakly to prevent injury... but i've already gone over that rule, you can still strike as hard as you want so long as you dont pull back beyond a certain angle)

you act like they separate Amtgard tourneys into classes. they dont.

you dont. i was assuming you'd figure out that the people mentioned were LYING.

ok... #1, how often do our weapons break, then? #2 yeah. i do. said it repeatedly.

Amazing physics fact: You can't reach full force with a limited range of motion.

Amazing historical fact: Weapons were made to be durable. A good sword could last generations ( http://swordforum.com/swords/historical/makingofmedswds.html )

Amazing fact about English: Simply saying tournament implies a seperate, non Amtgard tournament

Another Amazing fact about English: You said nothing to imply you weren't bragging.

Now, don't bother replying, because I am done with this thread.
