Having been watching anime for close on a year now,

I really feel the need to say how great it really is.

I've just finished "Now and Then, Here and There"

    I'm starting "Dual" right now.

I have accumulated 5.5GB of AMV's and most of em are really well done.

    anyway, thats all. :)

Yet at the same time, anime seems dull.

So many gags and ideas are so overdone, you have to wonder where you can get a copy of the master anime formula. You can watch some series one after another and almost swear you've watched the same thing redone three times.

And don't delude yourself. It happens. It happens in more than anime - music, movies, novels. The ideas that work generally have foundation in other successful works - and it's dang hard to be original nowadays.

But yes, anime can be brilliant as well. You can find works that go the extra mile - works that stand out for reasons. You can find beautiful masterpieces of plot, sight, and sound.

But take a breather next time and realize that just being classified as anime doesn't make something worth your attention. Just as with everything else, there are uninspired crud titles out there... :)

Dual does feel like an Eva rip off

Since Eva and I had a "falling out", I prefer Dual

Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures is good anime. Yes, it does, and *is* sort-of an Eva rip-off. I mean, c'mon, there's three mecha. But, that doesn't mean it isn't good. I liked Dual's storyline, if only because it was fun. The main pilot is a laugh, and toward the end...it did get a little interesting...if only they made it a bit longer though. *sigh* What a suck. This is one of the anime that is on my maybe's to get. Now, if only there's a box set...might as well check now!!!!

    the relevance is beside me.

well yeah, anime rawks. that's (presumably) why we're gathered here. that and most of us have a total overdose of free time, and a total lack of imagination otherwise :p
