Anime Anime lover in an anti-anime house

Hey, for any of us who still live with out parents. Since im only 13, i have to.

But, does anyone else live in a house where your parents hate anime? Mine are the type of people that think anime is all hentai. So it is hard for me to convince them that anime isnt.

MY dad is sort of on my side cus he saw Spirited Away. But it is really hard to live the life of an anime freak (me) and live in a house soo against anime.

Anyone else feel my pain?

 

I am not of close relation to ethier parent and neither do they care as to my watching of anime so in the end it works out.

 

Well, my dad is perfectly okay with anime. He's almost as big a fan of it as I am! He practically grew up on it, though his parents acted like some of the previously mentioned. My mom is a little questioning of it, but she doesn't mind me watching it, as long as I use my own judgement on what is appropriate for myself and my siblings, if they want to watch.

 

The next time they say all anime is "cartoon porn" say thats like saying that all books are erotica and all movies are low quality porno.

You can't classify a medium as entirely being one genre.

 

My dad don't seem to bother that I watch anime, it could be cause he only knows that it's "cartoons" with asian language so he don't have any idea of what I actually watch but so what he wouldn't stop me from watching anything.

My friends don't like anime, they've said that a long time ago when I started to watch and that's fine with me cause it's their loss right.

 

my dad doesn't seem to really care about me and ym anime, he just, 1)wants me focusing more on my school work (I do FATHER, it ain't my fault I'm obsessive and way smarter than you were when you were my age) (he also expects 80's by the first report card which is coming out in a little while. I say he's nuts) 2)he knows partially of my obsession with Kaiba and does not approve of it (gee whiz dad, MOM finds it disturbing but she lets me be!!! >< and you wonder why I wnat to live with her?!).
My mom on the other hand thinks the Japanese can be a little sick and questions my liking of anime. She lives with it, but she questions my sanity. (she just remembers one time an otaku at an anime store told her Sailor Moon had some porn/sex in it when he asked him which one might be wise to get for me.) --; oi...

my grandfather doesn't lijke aniem tho. Says it's all the same. --; Baka gaijin.

 

My parents don't have a problem with me watching anime. Why would they if they didn't have a problem with the guy that introduce me to anime (my brother is worth having around for! lol). To make this simple: they're a-ok with what I'm watching. ^_^

 

My parents support my hobby. They're a bit condescending at times, but generally they're great. My dad's prepared to watch anime with me- he took me to the theaters to see Metropolis.

My mom might say something like 'You're watching your anime?'
or she'll call it cartoons, which is annoying, but she's generally okay as well.

They sometimes aren't too happy about the amount of money needed to support this hobby, but they'll fork it over. I know enough about what makes them go into a guilt trip for that.

 

Mom's on my side, since me and sis are big anime freaks. She respects my anime / manga collection and often asks about what books I bought and stuff and what that serie's about and etc She bought some Chobits manga for me while we were in NYC

Dad on the other hand, is basically "Neutral" when it comes to anime.

Dont have a dad, but my mom hates it, unless its like FLCL or anything from Hayao Miyazaki or anything thats all abstract and confusing, but if its like...Sailor Moon or Trigun, she thinks its childish, and that I'm childish for watching saturday morning cartoons. Like I care. She also thinks im wasting money on my anime collection but she doesnt stop me from buying it.


She gives me the money for my Eva and other anime, so she's cool. But Im trying my best to convert her .

 

my dad at first pretended to apprieciate the art and all that it takes to create an animation, but he's given up on it now. in my family they're all refered to as 'your asian cartoons'. lol. they've seen ghost in the shell, blood the last vamp, perfect blue and a few others of mine, but they still think all anime is kids cartoons.
i like alot of different things to the rest of my family. they probably just see anime as another thing that makes me an odd-ball.
all my friends despised anime, so 90% of them don't even know that i like it.

 

My dad doesn't really care. He teases me and my brother a bit saying we're speaking Japanese even when we're just talking about the characters. My mom however sat down and actually tried to watch G Gundam. She said it sucked her in. It's a lot of improvement though. They use to think that the Japanese that was written on the screen when the Digimon transformed said kill your parents. :sweat: :sweat2:

 

My live with my parents and my cousin. My parents really don't care... my mum wonders over occassionally when I'm watching it on the computer and glances at it for a few minutes then wonders off again. I guess she's interested in it at times. My dad doesn't give a toss. Whereas my cousin who grew up watching chinese and japanese cartoons likes it... but since most of my animes are subbed and her english isn't that good. She has a hard time following the words and therefore looses interest in it.

Parents are slow readers and I'm a purest when it comes to watching anime. I only collect subtitled films and shut off the subtitles if they are crap so that I could get a better idea of what they are saying (intermediate japanese classes helped a lot) They tend to shy away from the stuff as a result and only watches every now and then for cultural curiosities like what food they are eating and what the meaning of a japanese written phrase is like in relation to the chinese characters. They don't even know the existance of hentai and I own virtually none on tape or DVD. I keep the manga well hidden so there are no real problems we have. My father could careless about the stuff even if he knew about it since he used to own quite a bit of porn until me and my brother were born. Apparently when we were kids, my brother found his stash and my mother went nuts about it. :shy3:

 

Oh god :dizzy2: My dad hates anime so much. He comes up to me and starts making fun of it by pretending to speak Japanese.

My mom thinks nothing of it.

My sister, hehehehehe, she likes it. She is only 3 and I got her into it hehehe, >: ) We watch Pokemon (I dont like it all that much but its better than watching Barney!! :dizzy2: )

Most kids at my school think anime is cartoon porn *falls* Oh well. To bad for them. They will never understand

My parents think that I am obsessed with it..and I just laugh at them...my mom likes some of the anime that I watch...shes not to fond of Blue Gender or EVA...but that is her choice...

My parents both hate my hobby.

My mother is a little softer now that I dragged her along to see Sen to Chihiro: Spirited Away, but she still admits that it was "only okay". My dad asks me why I never watch anything "wholesome". (If I wanted wholesome, I'd watch Muppet Babies or something.) He doesn't seem to understand that I have a lot of "nice" anime along with all the violent stuff... Fruits Basket, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service... I have about twice as many of those kinds of shows than I do, say, Perfect Blue type shows.

My parents don't bother me about it anymore, since I'm not around to bother *them* with my DVDs. This situation seems just fine with everyone involved. The people in my dorm, on the other hand, think I have a great collection and like to watch shows with me. Good compromise, huh?

 

I live in a house whare the people just don't understand, the call anime cartoons and that makes me mad.
But for the most part the don't mind as long as I keep it to myself which was hard intil i fond this site.
