What exactly is Joshyua? Is this just the name of the Hanagata estate or is the name of Hanagata Kamatarou's business? And further, what business is Hanagata's father in?

To answer the Joshyua question... I don't know :p.

I can relate what Kamatarou is involved in. He owns a chain of big stores that operate all over the world, and as such is quite a domineering and powerful figurehead...

On the other hand, we would not prohibit tramps from browsing, or testing the trampolines, unless a tramp's gyrations seemed to be getting out of control."

I believe that it's established that Joshuya is a more upscale residential block - a sort of "high class Kasahari Apartments," if you will. Certainly Mitsurugi and Yumeji live(d) there, but that doesn't necessarily rule out others living there as well.

To digress for a bit,I'd like to present an analysis of the kanji used.

    Jou - above,up
    Shu - state,province
    Ya - roof,house,shop,dealer,seller

As for Kamatarou,I don't really know for sure what he does, but I always thought that he ran some sorta zaibatsu-esque conglomerate.

It's that Kanji that probably made the reference to Joshuya possibly being a store...look at what you gave for "Ya"...

Perhaps it really is an Uppperclass Shop?

BakaMattSu, kanji kanji all night long, kanji kanji sing this song....KANJI!

I was under the impression that Joshyua was the department store.

If Hanagata's father owned it (as part of a chain maybe), i guess it could also be the name of his business, uhm yeah.

Unless it's a common practice in Japan for people to live in their workplace (all jokes about CS majors aside),then I'd need a little more to be convinced that it's a shop.

BTW Matt, which "Ya" were you referring to? [IMG] [IMG]

    Which 'ya' ?

Take your pic from "shop", "dealer", or "seller"...

If it wasn't a store, then, why would they have signs spouting "Pawn Tickets Exchanged Here" ?

    Why,Urusei YAtsura,of course! J/K

Okay, but I'm wondering if they lived in Joushuya as well, and if so,why.

BTW,when I asked which "ya" you were referring to,I was thinking of the "ya" in Joushuya and the "ya" in InuYasha.

Well, a lot of families live over their shops, at least here in the USA in big cities. Perhaps this is just something Kamatarou likes to do? Either that or he's just about as weird as his son and somehow gets a 'kick' out of that.
