Kikyo isnt even trying to kill Inuyasha. She only tried killing kagome and inuyasha each once. She tried killing inuyasha when she was first revived, and she tried killing kagome when she was POSSESSED. The second time with Inuyasha, he agrees to go to hell ,but then Kagome had to go interupt... grr..

    Die, Kikyo, die!!!

I think she should just peacefully return to the Underworld (or I don't know what's it in English, I watched the series in Hungarian). That would be the best. She came here to kill Inuyasha. Now that she realised that she doesn't want to anymore, why IS she here anyway?

In my current perspective, Kikyou cannot be changed in any way that would make her like me.
I dislike her completly now....ever since InuYasha got way too long (remember I watch american television) and she's just there to stare at InuYasha. >.< Ugh!

I know this discussion was intended to analyze Kikyo's various positive/negative qualities (and what impact alterations to said qualities would have on the fanbase), but I feel this thread's evolved to the point that jumping to Kagome's defense (Can I help it? It's a reflex!) won't be deemed inappropriate enough to warrant negative action. It's your judgement call, mods, so you've got my blessing (not that you need it ^_^) to delete this post if you feel it's justified.

(Erm, just to clarify, this post is mainly responding to the Kikyo/Kagome comparison list Ninja_Yuffie posted).

    Now on with it, d*mnit!

On several instances I've felt compelled to draw attention to Kagome's age, and this is yet another such occasion. Kagome is a modern day fifteen year old. I'm astonished that the psychological implications of the horrors she encounters on a daily basis haven't traumatized her beyond recognition. She wasn't raised in preparation for feudal society as Kikyo was, she led an ordinary, monotonous fifteen-year-old life disrupted by evils she probably couldn't even have comprehended prior to her tumble through time. The maturity, responsibility, and apparent selflessness she displays on countless occasions are examples of exemplary teenaged behavior, especially when you consider the fact that, by accepting responsibility and consenting to her role as the Lady Kagome (and all the drawbacks that entails), she's irreparably distancing herself from the modern world. She's not an idiot. I'm sure she's fully aware of the fact that her constantly plummeting grades aren't going to secure herself one of those too-exclusive seats in a decent college. She's essentially sacrificing her childhood and her future all in one fell swoop because she holds herself accountable for the damage her misfire-straight-into-the-jewel caused. I'd say that alone deserves some respect, wouldn't you?

All right, now back on topic.

I love Kikyo, but I was bowled over by the manner in which she addressed Kagome in the aftermath of ep. 151. That is definitely NOT the approach most people take when addressing their rescuers, especially when said rescuer had just sacrificed any likelihood she had of ending up with Inuyasha in the interest of reviving Kikyo. That entire exchange just screamed arrogance to me.

I agree, Kagome not being traumitized by all of the demons, dead humans, and the Feudal age in general is quite impressive, but we can't have her dwelling on stuff like that. We don't need this to be too real. I think it's amazing that Kagome's mom just lets her bounce off to the Feudal Era all the time, but I don't really think about it much because it's not focused on. But that doesns't mean it should be ignored.

It doesn't surprise me people don't give her much credit for that though, because stuff like that is pretty common in anime in general. Like Keiko from Yu Yu Hakusho. I'm more impressed by Rin though, but that's another topic...

I don't understand why Kikyou didn't thank Kagome either, and I agree that was pretty messed up (even though I'm a rabid Kikyou fan). Kikyou has her reasons I guess.

they should have just left her dead.

one of the only real things that annoys me about her is that inuyasha keeps compareing the two.

but other than that shes not that bad.

I've been hearing this argument a lot lately, but I think it's more fandom handiwork (not only is this a common fanfic plot device, but it's the argument most Kagome-shippers resort to when they're completely out of canon-based ammo. [Yes, I'm speaking from personal experience ^_^]) then anything else. Aside from a few incidents toward the beginning of the series, when comparing the two would've been completely natural given the circumstances IY had been presented with, and that scene in Ep. 14 when Kagome is sleeping and IY reflects on their uncanny resemblance, there isn't much evidence to back this up. Once Kikyo is restored to "life", Inuyasha seems to acknowledge that the two, while possessing some distinct similiarties [which can probably be attributed to the whole "Hey! You're my reincarnation!" thing], are seperate individuals and deserve to be treated as such. Any comparisons made after that are usually initiated by Kagome herself (who I'm surprised hasn't developed an inferiority complex by this point).
