I'm just curious, is anyone else here a fan of Neil Gaiman? He's my favorite contemporary author, but I seem to be the only person in my neck of the woods who reads his work, aside from a few of my friends. So does anyone here read his books or comics?

i likes what i've read. have a book adaptation of one of his comics (starman or something...it's about a wall with a hole i think...it's very buried and i've never read it...), good omens w/ terry pratchett (common movie!!), and dream catchers w/ y. amano. signed by both. ^^ if i knew what box it was in, i'd scan...but it's packed away.
but anyways, his writing style is just so simple and not at the same time. it's really neat how he convies stuff. and well, he has an odd sense of humor when it applies ^^

Oh good, I'm not the only one.^_^ Stardust is the name of that book, I think. I love that one; it reminds me of some of the stories I heard as a kid. I'm starting to lose hope on that movie. The book's been out since the early/mid nineties, how much longer is it going to take? :anger2: You have a signed copy of the Dreamhunters? Did you buy it like that, or did they sign it personally? I know what you mean about Gaiman's style. The way he writes a sentence, it's just beautiful. And his sense of humor is so warped sometimes. I love it. :anime:

I've read most of his novels, personally I like Neverwhere and American Gods more then Stardust...it just seemed different then the rest of his work, kinda lacked something. I just got done with Smoke and Mirrors, too; the book of short stories he's done. He's very good at short stories. ^^

Stardust was a little simpler than the rest of his books, but that was part of its charm. American Gods is my favorite. I'm a mythology nut, so I got a real kick out of it. You've read Smoke and Mirrors? Which short stories did you like? I liked Chivalry, Murder Mysteries, and the Snow White one. Has anyone seen the Neverwhere tv show? I hear its out on DVD.

Dear god yes. I love Neil Gaiman. In fact I actually bought one of his Books of Magic Graphic Novels. It is incredible. Anyway I have read all of his Sandman stuff and most of his Lucifer. I love Death and Dream and Lucifer. Right now Books of Magic is my fav, I love Tim, Molly and sexy sexy Leah. John Constantine is sooo cool.

I also read Good Omens which is co written with Terry Pratchet and I liked it a lot.

    It's really hard to pick, I got a kick out of Babycakes, just because I'm a vegetarian and it was fun to rub into my friends. ^^;

But yeah, I liked the Snow White one alot too; and he's right, I'll never read that the same way again.

Babycakes is definately memorable. :anime: Hey, I've found out that, in addition to Good Omens, there are two other movies coming out based on Gaiman's work. One is based on Coraline and the other is the first Death graphic novel (I want to say that its called Time of Your Life, but I'm not sure). I'm very excited about the Death one. She's one of my favorite of the Endless.

    Neil Gaiman anyone?

Since there was a previous thread about the wonderful authour Terry Prachett, I was wondering if anyone has read Neil Gaimans books?

Neverwhere, Sandman series, StarDust, Good Omens (With Terry Prachett), American Gods, Coraline...

    All great titles!

Um, actually, there is already a Neil Gaiman thread. :sweat2: I kinda started it. I love his work, and I've read all of books except for some of the children's books. American Gods is one of my all-time favorite books. Hey, there is supposed to be movie versions of Coraline and Good Omens in the works. Um, well, that's all. Bye!

Damn I just did the same thing, (starting a thread for gaiman) but its not worth merging, it's full of people refering me to this thread :shy3:

Anyhow: so death's getting a movie huh, why'd they go with her? I mean she's really cool and everything, and funny too, but I havent read any of her stories and so I cant see where they can go with her character. (well maybe i'm just a little dim :dizzy2: )

I too have never seen neverwhere and i live in the country where they first aired the goddamn thing :anger2: . It was the first of the novels I read, and reading it I thought damn i've got to see this. (the channels that show nothing but repeats havent picked up on it either. )

Maybe i'll go over to one of them and start a petition to get it shown heheh :anime:

hey cool, the thread I made is in the same list as this one now :anime: , but I think there should be a link in the comics section (to this thread, it's better cos more people know about it :dizzy2: )

    uhhmm, that's all...bye <runs away scared>

Oh! Actually, my drama teacher's been lending me The Sandman comics for like...the past week! They're absolutely fantastic! I already love his work! I can't wait to see more, but his books are expensive.

I like Dream and Delirium best myself.

I think that Death is funny though, so a movie about her would be very cool...so long as it at least features the other Endless a little bit.

ALL the endless have a certain amount of cool obviously,

    My favourites and why

Delirium - At one point she decide to be fish, whats not cool about that,

Death - cute, funny, bread combat specialist

    Dream - nuff said

Destruction - gives a better sense of personality than most characters i've seen in a lot of things plus talking dog

    Despair - she's funny

The others bore me a little, I've only read a couple of the books, Is desire a guy or a girl or both?

    Desire - meh

Destiny - doesn't do a lot from what i've seen

(everytime i make a list of the endless i'm sure i've missed someone)

All the endless should appear, though if they try to hard to tie them in it could ruin the movie (especially destruction given his loner-nature)
