Celebrations BakaMattSu: Mr. 4000

Fair enough. You don't get to be four thousand posts without gleaning at least a little knowledge.

In fact, you wouldn't be saying "M2A" at the very beginning. I wouldn't coin that acronym for a few months after first joining what was "Mangatoanime". In reflection now, the original intent of the name was not the english "to", but the japanese "to" which gave the result of "Manga and Anime". But disregarding that, I began to refer to the place as M2A whenever I referred to it. It sort of stuck.

But I digress.

What was M2A like before it was BJP? Well, for one thing, it was much, much smaller. I remember knowing about every single poster. It was possible to keep up with the Newbies board and give everyone a proper individual greeting. It was rare that any post went unanswered. And there were perhaps a dozen forums. Right, a dozen....or maybe fourteen. Fourteen popped into my head for some reason. It was basic, it was plain, but it was functional.

Honestly, I never predicted it would live this long, or that I would even be here anymore. We're blessed with Cloud's excellent management, a dedicated team of moderators, and an ever growing and very diverse memberbase. We've got hosted webspace, we've got journals, we've got hosted forums, we've got style. We have at least quintuple the forums we started with. Things have come a long way, and it's thanks to about everyone who hits that login button at some point.

I'm going to sort of dodge this one. There are a load of good threads out there that I have liked for various reasons. Some because they personally sparked interesting thought in me, others because they were just downright fun. I tried to narrow things down, but I ultimately couldn't.

The trickster in me has pulled a few mean ones in the past Aprils, and it really had a few select members on their toes this year. Two of my previous pranks were enjoyable:

ANOTHER B-DAY to.... - This one was an easy bait-and-switch. After so many birthday threads, I turned the table by setting my user profile's birthdate to April 1st coincidentally falling on the same date as another member and one day before Cloud's. I got a few bites.

The Resignation - This one was downright mean, and I set it up by posting it the day before April 1st - I posted in News of my retirement at the post of Admin. Of course, it was a real farce, but I fooled pretty much the entire site with it. It remains a real favourite of mine, because of the feedback I got from a number of members was very positive. Well, until I sprung my april fool...then it gets a little scary in there.


General interesting board topics that have made it into my favourites are:
This Site Rocks!!! (a gratuitous general site plug thread), How did you find out about M2A? (an interesting cyberspace spin on the "where are you from?" question), and the almighty Pillows Lyrics (you will not find a more complete Pillows lyrics collection elsewhere on the web).


Of course, I can't forget about the two RPGs I ran on here, back in the day, either. Ranma RPG ran off and on, but sputtered out before the first plotline finished. Anime Collision was a load of work, but very fun...I almost saw it through to the end.


Oh! The Easter Egg Contest was a bit of work and fun, too. The links are all pointing to the old site now...perhaps I should fix them up?


And last of all, since it's my real home at BJP, I have a load of favourites in the Saber Marionette J forum. Really, the good topics that really took off and had a ton of discussion made the cut:

I know those are more than one favourite, but it's hard to pick a topic when I've been in so many. ^^

As aptly stated before, the credit is due to the big man himself, Cloud. As for what lead me to originally join BJP, the answer lies here.

To own, fish - I'm a low maintenance kind of guy. For someone else to own, cat - you can pet them, but with less slobber than a dog.
