Recreation Bandwidth Issues

    Well we've certainly come a long way in a few months, here's the bandwidth statistics for the M2A site (one or two other non-anime sites I host make up about 10% of the bandwidth):

    The amounts there are shown in terms of GB of data transferred. So it looks like we'll be hitting around 8 GB per month for M2A (with 800 MB for my other sites).

    You've probably seen these bandwidth limit exceeded messages and that's because my current hosting plan is $16 for 5 GB per month - I've contacted my providers to see what it will cost to go up to the next level - more on that as I find out. I may have to change banner ads to something a bit more profitable as I've only earned $14.50 so far from Amazon :) If anyone has any ideas, please send them on...

    Anyway just wanted to keep you in the frame, ja mata!

    I had been wondering what the bandwidth costs are for the site... I guess I know now...
    I guess one solution would be to make donations through PayPal or similar service... or we could all buy M2A t-shirts and merchandise :)
    In any case, I'd be willing to contribute something...

    Something we could set up is a community chest or something(I've seen these on Ezboards) so we could all donate money to help run Mangatoanime, I mean this is an awesome message board and I'd be willing to help keep it going. I just need to get a credit card first... that's coming soon though (I hope). When I get one then I'll buy a T shirt too, I've been wanting to get on for a while...

    hum... maybe banners are the solution, even thought i hate banners. paypal would b nice, but i`m sure not more than 10(with luck) ppl wll cooperate... Also cooperation of M2A members, DON`T STEAL BANDWIDHT!!!!!! For those who don`t know, one of the forms of stealing BW is by puting M2A`s images in your site, wothout saving to your HD and uploading to your own server! Maybe someone did this without knowing. THIS ALSO APPLY TO THE GUESTS!!!

    Dunno where that disc came from :) I'm not sure if I have got anything from the M2A store either but I'll think of some get-rich scheme soon...

    M2A is on a server plan where only a certain amount of bandwidth (or download requests) is alotted per month.

    With our increase in popularity, a good thing mind you(!), the server is getting increased traffic, and the result is M2A becoming temporarily unavailable near the end of the month since we've been using up our downloads for that time...

    Take a look at Cloud's figures above...we've been steadily increasing at about a rate of a gig a month! Quite a lot if you consider it's mainly text and small image transfers!

    So, naturally, we need more bandwidth...however, that means more $$..... :(

    To try and reduce the cost, Cloud had "partnered" up with Amazon.com (I'm sure you've seen the banners above), but web-advertising isn't too profitable these days...

    Now he was looking for any suggestions to help lessen the blow to his checkbook...and that's where we are now.

    How about a competition or something where you have to pay €5 to enter (once you pay you can enter as many times as u can).

    Something that would be fun.

    I have a couple of ideas(they are great ones, really),


    Some funny drawing, story compo?
    Captions for M2A?
    What colour underwear will Cloud on Sunday the 21st of July. My money is on no underwear.


    or or or, start off a debate on something, ppl pay to enter, discuss something like - if Sailor Moon was fighting Eva Unit 02, who would win, let ppl discuss their brillient battleplans and story line and then have a poll and the people decide.
    Maybe thats not the best example, cos we all know cosmic moon rainbow power of love and justice would hammer Eva Unit 02

    The winner could get something from the M2A store or something and the rest of the money gathered go's to M2A.

    LOL! We could do that... would be so much fun!!! did you noted that everything that gets too popular, usually goes wrong and/or closes? fanficiton.net is an example(i`m not saing it`s wrong, i`m very happy ppl like to see what we write here:))
    Cloud we could search for something that pays more than U$14, we are better than that (LOL!) ... or we could do like Panda said:D

    umm, paypal would be a good idea i think...or i think amazon has a donation system too...and well, i know i got a couple shirts from the store*^-^* only 1 has been worn to work(the long sleeve is too warm right now) maybe for that, we can do some new styles...like use the mascot on them or soemthing...we could have a contest to see who can make the best design. top 3 have their designs done, and get a free one. <shrugs>

    Cloud Im sure If you add Animanation as a banner you could get some more hits or whatever.. Im nt sure how exactly it works but that be a good one.. Or even Anipike

    all these good ideas... sigh i myself have none i am clueless when it comes to stuff like that... and i would LOVE to donate to my fav site ever but i have no cash or card...so sad so sad :( whatever you do i just beg that you keep us poor members in mind and dont go completely pay2play or enter or whatever youd call it! *sniffsniff* if we had to pay to be a member i would have to drop out!! and that would be sad right? yeah well i just wanted to throw that out there you might not have even thought of something like that but ya never know (i have had it happen too many times :( )

    Don't worry people! We're not going to shut down! And we're still going to remain a free community... we just wanted to look at a few cost effective plans...as much of a pain as it is talking money, it's there plain and simple.

    Actually, if you backtrack, you'll see that Cloud only asked for more profitable advertising suggestions...but it seems we have a lot of eager supporters! You guys rock!

    Nice one folks, I don't mind paying for now in any case, and I'll see if an AnimeNation banner pays better than Amazon (I think I have an account with them from before anyway).
