I just recently was able to see Battle Royale. Has anyone else seen this movie? It's insane. I liked it, but it had some major flaws (i.e. none of the characters were fully developed, the story had some flow problems, etc.).

I've said this many a time before, but I'll say it again, just because it needs to be said.
Battle Royale is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It's a plot that's been done hundreds of times, it's poorly-written and (with the notable exception of Kitano) poorly-acted.
And yeah, there's a lot of holes in the plot. Watch any post-golden-era Japanese film and you'll see a lot of that.

Sadly, I have to agree with you on most of that. The plot has been done several times, although I've never seen it done with children. While I can't comment on the Japanese script (I don't speak or read Japanese), the subtitles were subpar and really needed to be rewritten or something. As for the acting, Kitano was great (no surprise there) and I thought the guy who played Kawada (sorry, don't know his name) did a decent job as well.

Still, for some reason, I enjoyed the movie. I watched it with a couple of friends and we had a good time. Kitano's performance was funny and a little creepy and the story, while predictable and implausible in some places, was able to hold my interest. So while I agree it's not a great film, at least it's enjoyable and a decent way to waste a couple of hours.

I liked Battle Royale. It's a movie, ofcourse everything had to be speeded up therefore it left loads of gaps, but we don't want to sit for three hours wasting our emotions on characters that would get killed. It isn't anything new, but it appealed to so many peole because of what it represents to the youth of today.
    ..or something like that.
