A number of characters at points were designed to be hated, designed to be the antagonist, or purely to play the part of the bad guy. In your opinion, which baddie pulled this off the best?

In other words, who was the scariest villain for you, and why was this the case?

Compared with Starface, Faust is a member of the singing kids of Vienna.
A her Sexadolls are really very evil.
Apart from that, Yang Ming wants to use everyone around him in order to achieve his dreams. He does it as cynically as he can.

If the saxadolls were a seperate option from the saber dolls, they'd get my vote. Well, Starface prolly takes the cake

**might be a spoiler for those not done with SMJ**
Saber Dolls just can't seem evil after J Again and J 2 X (what I've seen of it)

The sexadolls don't seem as scary after the radio drama... ;)

Personally, I think the "evil" Faust was the scariest (with Hess and Leopard close behind). He had the mean streak, the visual dominating presence, and the cold heart. He just seemed evil to core at that point.

Hess was mysterious, and yes, evil...but he lacked something for me.

Leopard was scary...in a Terminator kind of sense. ^^

Maybe Starface deserves the title. But I never saw enough of him to get a real sense of his evilness.

Faust was really mean in J... but later we see that it was plain madness.

    Hess, on the other hand...

    1) He wants revenge (won't say more for spoilers)
    2) He used Otaru's marionettes in the most wretched way. Not to mention their dream torture *sniff* :( that was bad!
    3) He doesn't give a damn about ppl.
    4) His sadistic nature is so... oh man, it scares me!

Not only he's evil. He's a genius. This makes him even more dangerous. I'd vote twice for him.

Fair enough. I'll give him another vote. :)

But still, one could argue that Hess' actions are attributed to madness as well. His envisionment of the past compunded over the years is what made him lose his faith in humanity. Not to mention, his "moldy brain" as my younger brother calls him. ^^

Some of the evilest characters have insanity to thank for it.

Yeah, you're right about that. Curiously, SMJ is one of the very few anime series (if not the only) where the bad guys are (somewhat) common people like us, and they went bad because of something they experienced.

This is quite realistic... we can get to see the other side of the coin - why Hess was bad, why Faust was bad, why the Saberdolls were bad...

compare this with other series with great gruntings and superpowers where there's always a new bad guy who just wants to conquer the universe... how cliché.

This is another reason for me to vote SMJ as the #1 anime :)

I think that was a direct hit at DBZ... ^^

...but it is sadly reflected in several forms of media. Often a villain is evil to the core, and he either has nothing in mind but a power cliche, or we are just never revealed any of his/her true thoughts or intentions.

The trend of "believable villains" or the "two sides of the coin" is one that I favor greatly. Saber Marionette is not alone in following this idea - most of my favorite anime series follow it - but it is certainly one of its many assets.

I haven't seen much of Saber Marionette, only Saber Marionette J and Saber Marionette J Agains, and so, I don't know some of the candidates for "The Best Representation of Evil". However, from what I have seen, my vote goes for Hess!

    Why?

He is calculating, intelligent, cold-blooded, uncaring, and appears to be willing and able to destroy or bring down those who are standing in the way of his plans, be they friends or foes. He seems to have a perfect timing; i.e. he knows how to appear when and where it is necessary, and knows how to disappear into the thin air just in time to avoid retribution ("Dr. Hess is gone missing!"). I do not know if he would be an effective villain if he would work by himself, but as a 'man behind the throne', Hess makes an imression of a very effective and deadly villain (deadly for the friends and foes alike).

Must say Hess after events at end of J to X. Don't know what I'm talking about? Watch and see.

Hmm... the later at night I post, the shorter my messages. Interesting.

If we are going to forgive them because 'they were good at the end' then I'd vote for Face, the ever bad guy who couldn't accept the thruth and
    killed himself

Without the conditional, I have tied Hesu, Fausuto and Feisu :p
