They went from pop-punk, to teeny boppers, to a studio band. Yeah, I guess that about sums it up. :)

I don't find them any better. ;P NOFX, MxPx, blink 182, Good Charlotte and Sum 41 are all on the same notch on my list. ;P 'teh suk'. >P

First person to call any of them punk deserves a Ramones CD shoved up their ***. :p

NOFX is one of the biggest names in punk. They've headlined the Vans Warped Tour every year except last. They have all the elements of punk music: yelling vocals, screechy guitars and political lyrics.
Still, though, Ramones is a better choice for the ***-shoving.

    *Shakes head*

I don't even like punk music...but the Ramones and that whole group is a million times better than all this pop-punk crap.

:bleed: Punk as a whole is horrible. Three, or if your lucky, four chords are used throughout a song. It is unimaginitive and boring. I would rather listen to Sigur Ros instead.

You could also be describing most rock, or grunge, or a lot of metal. Not every guitarist has to be Hendrix, you know.

Blink 182... that monotomous song on the radio is punk?... dont make me laugh. I would say calling them punk is an insult to punk but hell, punk is an insult to itself.

I see I have not shown my disdain for this group in this thread yet, so I shall.

    [disdain][opinion]
Blink 182 is not music. Heck, they're not even close.

I only started listening to Blink when take off yuor pants and jacket came out that was a good album but all of they're more recent stuff is and i quote "utter and complete gobshite"

The earlier stuff wasnt that good but at least it was passable

And anyone who believes that a band is good because one or more members are "hot" should have a westlife CD in their arse (even better make that every westlife CD)

    no offence

I was asked the other day if i would like to take a survey to be entered for backstage passes to the Blink 182 concert- it went sort of like this
    Me: Blink 182?
teenybopper: yes! there the best punk band ever and they really rock!
    <me... laughing... uncontrollably...>
Me: You call those little twit-preps punk? you have no taste whatsoever.
teenybopper: But there so great! just like avril!
    <Me.. laughing. harder.>
ME: avril- the sell out? haha. what are you doing in canada?
teenybopper: well you suck. i mean look at your hair- its purple! i mean some one like you should like them
Me: some one like me? little girl you better scurry before i knock you down.
    that was fun...

I think it's funny as you come off as one of those types until teenybopping is brought up, then you "fight against them". :D

Man, dyed hair, piercings and stupid clothes are exactly what punk rock is NOT about. That's something I just love about all the pop-punkers. They think that punk is a look. A lot of these kids seem to think you can't listen to anything even remotely resembling (or at least pretending to resemble) punk unless you look like some kind of ad for Good Charlotte's line of clothing. People are often surprised when they find out for the first time that I like punk because I don't look like the stereotype, what with my natural hair colour (with a total lack of gelling), no piercings, no mohawk, and surprisingly little clothes with band names plastered everywhere.
Bands like Stink 182 have forgotten that the punk movement was started not to give highschoolers something to pretend to believe in, but to present a new means of getting out a message.
True punk isn't about how you look. It's about what you have to say. And what you have to say better be something better that "I'm feelin' it!" or "I'm just a kid, and my life is a nightmare!".
What really cracks me up, though, is Good Charlotte, with their song Anthem, in which they say "I don't wanna be you, don't wanna be just like you" and so forth. Aren't they really just like Blink 182, who really paved the way for them? Don't they sound a lot like Gob's later work? Doesn't the fact that they sell clothes to let kids look just like them kind of throw individuality and originality right out the window?

I'm going to give a summary of key points:
    1. Punk is not a look.
    2. You don't have to look punk to like punk.
    3. Punk is about the message first, and all that other crap second.
    4. Poser punk bands and their fans have forgotten about points 1, 2 and 3.
    5. People turn to this crap seeking originality, not realizing that they are just falling into another mold.

Kinda reminds me of a quote I saw on Bash.org once...

"Why do all Goths express their individuality the same?"

I completely agree with you, but i mean my friends who are punks dont really like to go out there and be outrage but there not about to go shopping in a corporate store like Abercrombie & Fitch that charge like 70 for a T-shirt. I think that punk is more of an art someone who is original and dares to question others..
