My friend really likes it. I hear it's good... it looks a bit creepy and weird though. Where can you get it? I haven't seen it anywhere.

i couldn't agree more. The scene between boogiepop and poom poom in paisley park is awsome. The music is awsome too. i LOVE the line boogipop uses about poom poom and 'regret'. it's perfect

    Hey guys,

    (I'm new to the board)

I bought the Boogiepop Phantom box set because I was intrigued (and it was for a very good price). I definitely enjoyed the anime, and it left me wanting more. My friend managed to get a translated copy of the "Boogiepop & Others" live-action movie; the disc was probably made for the Taiwan market -- that is, illegally.

I was a bit skeptical, but the translation and subtitle quality was very good. The movie was excellent as a stand-alone and it helped a lot to fill in some holes that the anime left. It deals with the time period one month before "The Light."

It's separated into four acts: Keiji Takeda, Akio (forgot his last name), Kazuko Suema, and Masami Saotome. Each tells an interesting love story, with all of them being connected in some way to the supernatural climax of "The Light." It was nice to get character development of Toka, Nagi, Suema, and Saotome, as well as seeing the characters not in the series: Keiji, Kei, Naoko, Minako, Akio, and Shiro.

Also, if anyone has the BoogiePop & Others CD that came with the box set, a lot of that music was in the movie. As far as differences go, I suppose the characters look a bit different. Nagi's actress had short hair but she played the role to a T. Toka's hair was shorter than in the anime, while Saotome's was longer. Naoko Kamikishiro who has long wavy hair in the manga has shorter reddish hair; she was one of my favorite characters in the movie. The movie also gave Suema a different dimension than the TV series. The incident with the light doesn't occur on the roof, but I figure this had to do with technical aspects. It was probably too expensive and complex to try and do it on a roof.

I highly recommend it if you can snag a copy. Anyone else here seen it, or read the Boogiepop & Others manga? I had one question if someone has. The character Shiro is present at the climax, and I wondered if this was a convention of the movie, or was it that way in the manga?

i really wouldn't recommend watching this series from anywhere but ep1. it wouldn't make much sense, and ruin the series for watching it later.
sppoky, i wish i'd got the box set but i didn't know it was available when i got the series. (or that i'd like the series.)

    SpookyElectric,

I haven't seen the movie; if a translation subtitle file would show up on www.scriptclub.org I would probably consider getting the Region 2 DVD of it.

However, I do have both volumes of the manga adaptation as well as the first novel; I've managed to get several chapters into the first manga volume, and only a few pages into the novel (at least the manga has furigana, a luxury the novel can't give me). I'm enjoying what I'm getting out of it so far, but I'm not yet past 'Romantic Warrior' (the Keiji section). I have skipped ahead and looked at the ending a little, but can't remember off-hand who exactly was there - Kei, Nagi, Boogiepop, the archer guy, Echoes, and at least one other person were present, I think (excepting Saotome and Manticore).

    YokoburiKinura,

Thanks! That answers my question; Shiro is the archer guy. Now that I've watched the anime and seen the movie, I'm curious about the source of them.

I wouldn't be any good at translating the novels, but manga with furigana is a lot easier. May I ask where you bought your manga? Was it on-line? I'm kind of surprised an American company hasn't liscensed it yet, seeing as it's somewhat of a cult fave.

    spooky-as-ever,

I've watched it all (though news of a movie is intriguing) but I must say, there is such a thing as being too abstruse.

I greeted the last episode with a strange sort of joy (jk, yk :D)
