Well, it's been a while so this blog will just decribe what happened to me before Christmas.

So I applied for a posted Senior Art teaching position at a local high school for the second term. There were at least 4 people who received interviews, mine at 12:25pm.

It was during the day, so I'm happy no one called for me to work or I'd be mad. Anyways the interviews were a bit behind. At 12:25, me still waiting, an older man my father's age came in. (mid-fifties) He calmly walked in wearing a tweed casual and a novel. No portfolio.

I sat there, thinking 'shit'. I didn't take into consideration that a retired teacher would apply for the position. Usually retired teachers can only work 90 days for the whole year, but sometimes there are exceptions and a retired teacher can work 3 full classes for one semester. I didn't think about it since the online posting stated starting January 3rd. (1 month more than a semester).

So, the girl finally came out from her interview, all rosey cheeked with a huge-assed portfolio .. she brought real work in, and she waited for a car to get her. Ok, the Principal and the VP came out to get me. At the moment they passed the older man, the Principal stopped and they both said hello to each other with knowledge of each others' names.

In the interview, the Principal and VP both said it was for second semester (Feb, I'd assume) I had to fight to show them anything in my portfolio and they were trying hard to wrap up. The VP was really impressed with the projects I showed him... doesn't matter.

You see, a retired teacher who comes in for an Art position Interview, would be a retired Art teacher. The Principal knowing his name means he's a retired Art teacher from that High School possibly.

The man, having come in with no portfolio and only a novel to read to pass the time is a man who knows what's going on.

It was some good experience for me, and a bit of a wale up call. I just went through the motions and most of the time an interview is only a formality.

When I started my position at the Pines last year, they didn't even post the job. Since I had been working there for 2 months prior.

    Oh well, live and learn.
