    Hi everyone,

I had the best christmas, got the soundtrack, 25th Anniversary and Ultimate DVD set as well as the best of G-Force. They were all very good. The 25th anniversary is especially good because it contains the later great BOTP episodes including The Fierce Flowers andVictims of the Hawk. That one is my new favorite, it is very dramatic and the music is heartbreaking, I really love this episode. The soundtrack is unbelievable, every bit as rousing and awesome as the BOTP opening music. It was a very Merry Christmas indeed.

Sorry to hear the new series has been put off for now.

I couldn't think of a better Christmas for a "Battle of the Planets" fan. I'm glad you got all of those goodies!

You were lucky. I didnt get any BOTP stuff at all due to none of my family being online. (and millitantly indifferent to shopping) so I had to tailor my wish list.

But I did get everything I wanted and needed and nothing I didnt want or need, so that was a good thing.

    Thanks guys,

ok, all of the stuff was great and even G-Force grew on me, the backbeat isn't that bad. What is good about it is that it includes the scenes BOTP left out due to violence. You actually get to see Jason (I mean Dirk!) fight and even kill in an episode. I know Dirk will love to hear that. The acting is not bad either, the actors playing Ace, Aggie and Dirk are actually pretty good. Dr. Brighthead is a disaster but the bad guy (Zoltar?!?) is terrific.

Still, BOTP remains my favorite, it was way beyond its time. Even though much of the continuity and violence from Gatchaman is missing the series is excellent, it really seems the actors really made it their own and the music!
    Unbelievable.

As for the soundtrack, brilliant. My favorite is love in an afterburner, very sweet puppy love kind of melody.

Hope everyone's new year is off to a great start!

My favorite song from the soundtrack "Phoenix Raising." It's a brilliant piece...my favorite Hoyt Curtin song by far.

In the "Battle of the Planets" episode "The Giant Mummy," there is a scene where Zoltar is in the little boy's bedroom at night with a thunderstorm going on, and the boy is asleep. In the "Gatchaman" episode, Berg Katse holds a gun to the boy's head and threatens to kill him if the uncle does not give him what he wants. This was also left out of the "G-Force" episode, so I guess that was even too much for Turner in 1985.

Glad to hear you liked the DVD, and that you could tolerate the backbeat! Great work soldier! LOL. Another question, i noticed that i've seen a small clip of episode 31 of G-Force which is included in the DVD. It's the one where Joe/Jason/Dirk encounters the Devil Star/Galaxy Girl and ends up killing her, at least in the Gatchaman episode. The clip i saw cut off to the Devil Star's plane flying away just as Dirk's feather shuriken was about to pierce the Devil Star. I could tell it was a cut as the backbeat jumped as well. Was this cut on the DVD as well? Don't have to ask whether that was cut in BotP  ..................

Really, the only thing keeping me from getting a DVD is that i want to install a DVD drive on my PC, but want to give my PC and adequate, inexpensive upgrade beforehand because i hear DVD players are quite the resource hogs on PC's. I'm not buying a stand-alone because i have a REALLY small room that's at about 95% capacity, and this is a good space-saving measure.

Oh and guys, i just turned 18 this past Thursday. For me, birthdays have degenerated into regular days already and the lack of any fanfare or presents on my birthday is a sign of that. Ditto for Christmas. Your resident Dirk Daring is finding it kinda difficult to cope with growing up, but will come to terms with it soon and feel much better.

    Happy Birthday Dirk!

Mine was on the 28th...I think its more due to season rather than age if thats any consolation to you.

Thanks. I really doubt it's due to season because fall/winter are my favorite seasons. I just like the reduced sunlight and cold temperatures. I HATE summer at least around my neighborhood, because almost ALL the people pour out into the streets and sit outside on chairs and stoops of buildings from morning to night and it gets quite distracting & noisy. A lot of altercations occur because of this. I openly admit that my neighborhood is "underdeveloped", or at least the mindset of the people who live here. What i would give to live in a nice, quiet neighborhood..........

I have been here 21 years and am used to it by now.

I hate summer, it gets too hot.

Happy Birthday Dirk! Belated birthday by now I guess. In answer to your question, yes in the best of G-Force, you actually do see Dirk's feather shirken pierce the chest of the devil star girl, she takes off her mask, mutters that she cared about him as her friend and dies. Would have loved to have seen that in BOTP. Still, minus the violence, the BOTP episode is excellent and so well done, although they manage to take Jason out of almost the entire episode because his scenes were violent.

Oh, and I think Phoenix rising is wonderful, really the whole soundtrack is a treasure.

Thanks! Interesting reply about the G-Force episode. Maybe the show really was more violent than i remember. Perhaps i now truly understand the concept about the episodes on DVD being advertised as "uncut"? Maybe Cartoon Network did even further editing than Sparklin' Entertainment did from Gatchaman? But hey, it did run alongside classic Jonny Quest in the 6PM hour way back when, and that show was quite violent as far as H-B shows go.

Perhaps you could analyze the clip i saw yourself and tell me if that's how it occurs on the episode on DVD? Lemme see if i could link it,it's from one of the reknowed Gatchaman sites:

    http://www.totalimagespecialists.com/Gatchaman/Downloads/31.zip

Download the compressed folder and play the Quicktime file contained inside. 9 sec clip. Just for kicks, the dialogue:

Dirk:This time i'm ready.........yeah, go ahead and pull that flower bomb it'll be the last thing you ever do...........

*Devil Star throws Flower Bomb at Dirk*

*Dirk quickly shoots feather shuriken at Flower Bomb, piercing it and sending both back towards Devil Star's chest*

*Video & backbeat jumps as Devil Star plane flys away behind Dirk while he continues to strike a pose*

Another question: how are the video & audio quality on the episodes on "The Best of G-Force" DVD in your opinion? Do they look as deteriorated as the BotP footage? (No offense, but we all know that BotP's print is in bad,bad shape.)
