Computers browser hijacker

    hmm.. whenever I'm so damn busy I always get computer problems. now it's a browser hijacker. COOLWEB : Malware? anyways my homepage was changed to 'about:blank' and no matter how many times I had reset the page to google, after I closed IE and reopened it would go back to about:blank.

    anyways about:blank isnt the problem. It's three banners that pop-up talking about spyware and getting a free scan. It's not just when I open the homepage, or when I go to a new site, for example, when I click 'Art' forum three pop up when I click a certain thread 3 more pop up when I click 'post' 3 more.. it's annoying as hell.. before I knew it was a hijacker I did adaware. didn't work, I did a Norton scan. nothing. SABER gave me spyware search and destroy nothing. I did adaware a few minutes ago and saw 4 coolwebs. then I immediately did another adaware scan 1 more coolweb. there must be a way to get rid of this.

    if not, would switching over to a new web browser do the trick?

    Use FireFox.

    I used to be an IE freak, but only because I couldn't get off my lazy behind to try something else.

    But, really, FireFox with the AdsBlocker add-in, and you get NOTHING.

    ANYWAY, remember to also update adaware.

    Well, you can use Hijackthis to get rid of the thing. But usually depends on knowing what program causing it.

    Use Opera! I use it, but Firefox is good too :)

    sigh.. that browser hijacker is the least of my problems now. Yesterday I ran adaware twice and a spybot search and destroy..afterwards I downloaded a few anime torrents and shut down the computer. today I turn it on and it froze at the xp 'welcome' screen. I reset, it did it again and again, then I shut down it did it again. So I went into safe mode. No viruses.. I restarted, it did it again. So then I had the idea to unquarantine the recent things adaware got rid of and spybot s&d. well. I thought that would work. But its not even files I lost through that. So I'm no sure what to do? I hope it doesnt come down to me being in Safe Mode forever or me having to bring it in to get it reformatted/fixed???

    I'm having a bad month :dizzy2: thanks for your help ^___^

    edit: lol. I forgot about good ol' system restore. I went to Monday..the hijacker was thursday.. but I still have it. At least I can see if I can get rid of it by umm.. uninstalling IE and reinstalling Mozilla?

    edit: One more update. I installed Mozilla and so far its working great, I was able to get google as my homepage and no ads. I couldn't have done it without help from the Hentai League ;)
