Computers Burning a DVD movie

i don't know too much, but some dvd drives aren't compatable with some burning programs. you may want to try another burning prog?

 

Make sure your burning drive is selected as your dvd drive; you could be writing to a virtual drive (that is, making another iso).

 

I tried again, but no program would give me a Burning option.
I used Nero's "test drives" option, but it says no CD-ROM drive detected.
The DVD burner was working just fine last week....
any ideas why this happens?

Well, i did both things. For one, it all checked out.
Whenever i put a blank DVD-R, it detects if fine, and even asks me if i want to burn files.
I put a DVD in, and it loaded it just fine.
I think its the programs, all of them, that dont let me record.
Has this ever happened to anyone, or am I the only one?

Do any reformmatting, driver alteration, or the like recently?

 

Maybe try reinstalling the programs? Usually resets any errors like that.

 

Well, the computer was completly erased and restarted with a windows Backup disk, but i dont think that could be it. And thats about all i did.

As for what you said, Ragnarok, I already said that ive been prohibited from being Computer Administrator, so i have to work with what i managed to install so far.

I didnt even know you had to install drivers. Hmm....care to explain how i would go about doing so?

If you don't have your original driver disk handy, go to the manufacturers website and look around for their drivers, usually in the support section. Download, follow any additional instructions the site gives you, and run (if its an exe, for example. Refer to your companies site).

Of course, without admin access (Hmm, I wonder if your lack of admin access is tied to your computer having to be formatted?), you might be out of luck until whoever IS the admin will do it for you.

But seriously you might have a borked version of whatever software you use; give that a reinstall first.

If you're using Windows XP it almost always auto installs the necessary drivers. If you're using a DVD Burner I guarantee it's plug and play and that Windows already knows which drivers to install. If it hasn't it's one of those "Once in a Blue Moon" cases. That's probably why you didn't know you might have had to re-install the drivers yourself. Ever since Windows 95 SE, the OS has been doing it all for us.

By the sounds of it Windows recognizes that the drive is there and that you can access the Data coming from the drive. Since it can see the drive and access the info on it that means that the problem is not the cable connection in the back. If it's not an issue with the drivers being bad then there's an off chance it may be a problem with the Windows set up, probably caused by that windows backup disk. It sounds like you purged the HDD and re-installed everything with an old version of XP and when it did it might only see your DVD burner as a plain old DVD drive by using a basic set of DVD drivers.

Since all of your burning programs are bust then it's got to be either a bad drive or something wrong with Windows config that's not recognizing your DVD drive as a burner.

It's kinda hard to trouble shoot anything over a message board. For the moment do what Neph said and try to re-install the correct DVD drivers. If that doesn't work see if you can swap out burners with another one and see what happens. The problem sounds software related, not so much hardware.

 

Hey Zanza I use SVCD2DVD 2.0 myself. It will do most video files. It works nicely and I can make a menu. I thought there was one that could make a moving menu but I would have to check. Then after it is made you would have to burn it of course. It has been a while since I have used it. It probably is at 3.0 or better. It will even extract the .mpg files from .bin which I forgot why I needed to do that. So what did you try then?

Will AVI2DVD do all sorts of video files too?

I have this whole way I do my burning. I have just about everything that I would need and for some reason it isn't working to well. Good luck to you Zanza.

What do you want to convert to dvd? What type of files? .ogm, .avi, .mp3, .mp4 or etc?
