I've been watching anime for a couple years casually. Just saw the whole Cowboy Bebop series and was extremely impressed, one of the best pieces of work I've ever seen. Any other suggestions for something similar?

I also liked Neon Genesis E, Akira, the Patlabors, the original Robotechs, GITS, Tenchi Muyo. Didn't like Escaflowne or the TV series of Record of Lodoss War, too silly.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Do you know how different the Rurouni kenshin tv series is from the OVAs? I saw the OVAs and liked them, but I find that most TV series are a big letdown afterwards. What do you think?

Thanks for the advice anyway, I'll check those out!

erm...i never actually seen the first OAV cuz Sanosuke(my fav character) wasnt in them. But from what i know,i think the OAV is alot more serious than the series. but its great anyway ^^

One of the best things about Cowboy Bebop is that it ISN'T like anything else. But if you like the gloomy film noir style that's displayed in Cowboy Bebop, try "Noir".Lupin the Third is also slightly similar.Alot more humurous, though. If I HAD to pick an anime that was the most like Cowboy Bebop all around,I'd pick Trigun.Great music?Check!Similar characters?Check!Mysterious plot?Check!Guns?Check!

    Try These:

    Trigun
    Noir
    Lupin The Third
Burn Up W(I'd recommend this no matter what you asked!)

Is Lupin the Third a particular set of episodes within the Lupin series? I've only seen Castle of Cogliostro so I don't know much else about the series, although I liked that movie.

Thanks for your advice as well. I just got all the Trigun episodes last night from a friend, will start watching them tomorrow. Heard of Noir too, I'll check it out.

Lupin the third *Lupin san se* refers to the fact that hes the third atleast as far as i can tell... oh btw the RK OVA was animated by totally different person. it deals with his past as a Hitokiri. then the Seihouhen deals with the Jinchuu Arc. anyway i suppose you could say that it was a let down but technically the TV series came first...so its kind of a jump into better stuff....

anyway i agree that there isnt an anime thats like Cowboy Bebop its really a unique series...its a kind of dpressing series with one of the best music sound tracks to any anime ive ever heard.

Cowboy Bebop was partially based on Lupin III. Just compare...So that would be the most alike. Now Trigun is a lot like Cowboy Bebop except about bounty hunters it is about the bounty. And i would suggest Gunsmith Cats well because 1) I dig chicks with guns and bombs and 2)If Faye and Julia teamed up like in RFB, that is what i imagined it would be like...

I agree and you might want to check out Macross Plus. Same Director..Same music composer.. Same voice actors...Same mono fighter control style..And Isamu kind of looks like Spike minus the Afro.

I saw Jin Roh at the Vancouver Film Festival when it premiered, very dope. PM was awesome as well. Only seen a few episodes of Escaflowne, unfortunately not really my cup of tea.

I'm up to episode 16 of Trigun now, good overall, however still second to Cowboy Bebop on quite a few fronts. Will come up with a concrete opinion however once I'm done, hopefully by the end of the week. :)

Do you mean like the original Macross? If we're thinking of the same one, I got the special DVD set when it came out in 2001. Very cool series. I'd like to see more of it, but I don't want to see the weird Robotech, american version that's all diced up.

There really isn't anything quite like Cowboy Bebop. Visually, musically (especially musically).. It's an exception in the field.

And it's hard to find animes to like after that! LOL CB was my first anime, and I never really watched anything else. So, I collected all the dvd's in the series, ect.. and finally when I got bored, this is all I've been able to sit in front of long enough (and not wanted to say "screw this!" and put in CB dvds instead):

    On Cartoon Network:

Inuyasha. Give it some time, it becomes addictive.

Trigun. A little goofy at times, but more than makes up for it in lots of other ways. Wish they didn't move it to 1 am..

Probably Kenshin (for cool anime w/ lighter drama)

I really can't get into Lupin III. The art is lacking, the "realness" I guess. The problem w/ Cowboy Bebop is that it kind of spoils you w/ the quality and every other show (though normal) seems lacking in it..

Umm... Other than what you see on CN, I guess.. Miyu the Vampire Princess is good.

    Movies:

I just bought Spirited Away the other day, and it was awesome. Totally a safe kiddie movie, but the visuals in it were enough to put you in awe.

Oooh, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a GREAT movie! I'd recommend it to anyone! It's got a nice darker tone, and some amazing visuals, too (way better than the first movie).

No way was it the original. The original Macross was made in the '80's. Macross "PLUS" is what i said. It came out around the same time. If you are thinking that it is the same thing is the main character Isamu Dison?

I see. I was talking about the original 80's one, I loved it b/c it's so campy. What's Macross Plus like? Similar story?

Well, there is a singer in this one too but this one is mainly about this odd love triangle. 2 friends make a pact to protect this one girl but as they grow up they go their seperate ways...In plus they meet back up the 2 guys are test pilots against each other for 2 new Transformer type jets and the girl is this virtual idols "manager". Sounds better than what i wrote probably...Everyone should See IT!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately I don't think there's anything else like Cowboy Bebop.

Cowboy Bebop is the ONLY anime that I've seen which is made for adults, isn't silly, has some sense of creditility, and makes SENSE!

For the life of me I dont understand how people can like Evangelion, or Ghost in the Shell.. neither of them made any sort of remote sense to me.. and completely lacked credibility.

Here are a couple of other animes that can be enjoyed by adults.. though none are as good as CB

    1. Berserk : the non-supernatural episodes are very very good, all be it a little unrealistic... the show doesn't really have an ending.. (though its MUCH better than Eva's nonsense)

    2. Trigun : a lot of silliness here.. but entertaining none the less.

    3. Hellsing : great vampire fun.. just a bit of a strange show.

    4. Kenshin OAV's : the series isnt really very good.. but the oav's are dark, and violent.

    hope that helps.
