How do you feel about captial punishment(the death penalty)
I belive that it was a good concept in olden days to ensure stable nations in those days. In nowadays with stable nations that ciminals should be locked up with a minmal amout of food and only the most basic nessities like only one bathroom trip a day two meals a day and no contact with the outside world and no chance of freedom ever.

I dont see anything wrong with it,but in a way i think it would be better to let them suffer in constant fear of bein shanked in prison.I also think it would be alot funner if they made the person who was being executed fight to the death against a horde of men and beasts.

I hate the death penalty. It's cruel, inhumane and inhuman. There's one thing about it that always makes me laugh, though. Here's a partial list of the countries that still use it (By partial, I mean the most populous and recognized - Trust me, I didn't purposely leave out any first-world countries):

AFGHANISTAN, ALGERIA, BANGLADESH, BOTSWANA, CHINA, CONGO (Democratic Republic), CUBA, EGYPT, ETHIOPIA, GUINEA, INDIA, INDONESIA, IRAN, IRAQ, JAPAN, JORDAN, KAZAKSTAN, KENYA, KOREA (North), KOREA (South), KUWAIT, LIBERIA, LIBYA, MONGOLIA, MOROCCO, NIGERIA, OMAN, PAKISTAN, PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY, PHILIPPINES, QATAR, RWANDA, SAUDI ARABIA, SINGAPORE, SOMALIA, SUDAN, SWAZILAND, SYRIA, TAIWAN, THAILAND, TUNISIA, UGANDA, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, UZBEKISTAN, VIETNAM, YEMEN, ZIMBABWE

Not exactly the best countries when it comes to talking about human rights. ;) It did surprise me that Japan still uses it, though. But yeah, I'm against it under all circumstances.

(The list was taken from Amnesty International's Website - All 83 countries that use the death penalty can be found there)

I support the death penalty for certain crimes, such as premeditated murder, in certain cases. Some human beings have no right to live.

I support the Death Penalty but only in the most extreme and horrific of crimes. (Gang Rapes, Mass Murders etc...)

And only when it can be proven without a doubt that the defendant is guilty. Unlike in Texas and Florida in the US where they cuts as many corners as possible so as to minimize the apeals process where new vital evidence can prove a client to be innocent. The problem which has become all to common is evidence that can save somebody's life is found after the date of execution.

Well I'm against it no matter what the crime is. I don't think anyone has the right to put someone to death.

I never heard of anyone getting the death penelty in Japan recently. It could be like here in Ireland. I'm pretty sure that on paper you can get hung for treason here. But it's just one of those old laws the never changed I suspect.

Actualy Hamish, it was legal here up to a couple of years ago when a refferendum was passed banning it outright.
I'm totaly against the death penalty, no matter what. I think locking somone away from everyone and everything is a much better punishment than killing them. That just makes the judge as bad as the offender. To me, killing is quite clearly wrong, and I really don't feel the need to justify that.

    And tooth for tooth.

That saying's flawed. Following that notion, if I killed your brother, you have the right to kill me. But since you killed me, my mother should now have the right to kill you. And so on. In other words, two wrongs don't make a right. They make two wrongs.

I firmly believe nobody has the right to pass judgement on another, and this is tenfold when it comes to deciding said person's life. This should be reserved for higher beings (i.e. gods).

Studies have shown there is no significant decline in crime where capital punishment is introduced, so prevention is not a good argument for its case.

Capital Punishment is cruel and unusual punishment.

Well actualy the contries that still use the Eye for an Eye justice system have less crime the most countries.

But frankly If you can prove 100% that Person A killed Person B. Either they put "person A" to death, or the victims family Pass justice on this person..

Cause frankly i believe if you take a life you have given up all your rights.. including the right to live..

I also like the idea of re-opening those Ancient Prisons that you see in the old movies "Count De Monte Cristo" for one.. Thats how the Ultra bad Killers and sickos should be punished till they die..

And if God (if he is real) has a problem with my views. Ill take it up with him when i die!!

I support the death penatly, those who kill for no reason, or kill for the sake of wealth (whether directly or indirectly) deserve a slow and excruciating painful death. I also think when we do execute a prisoner for their crimes, death by chemical is not enough punishment, they deserved to be locked up in a room with the family members of every lives he/she took.

And Raven, prisoners do not rot in a prison cage as you expect. They get to watch TV in a rec. room, read books, play baseball, basketball, all sort of **** like that. From what my Criminal Justice professor tells me, a prison is a little like college dorms, only with bars attached to them. and also 40,000 dollars, THAT ****ING 40,000 DOLLARS PER PERSON TO KEEP THESE MOTHER****ERS ALIVE.

I think it should be used on people who are serials killers and have comitted plain out evil crimes. Also they're is always that chance that they're will be a innocent person killed so a very close examination should be conducted. Basically they must be mass murderers, serial killers or rapists to get the death penalty and only if there has been a close examination that proves 99.9% they did it.

I say yes, because people would be hopefully be more hesitant to commit the crime.

We don't have it in Canada. I can't really say I'm either for or against it, it would depend on the situation definetely. Murder is murder, whether it's one person or a whole bunch. As Ark said, people who commit these atrocities really don't deserve to live. I don't even know if it would be possible, but could they make a mistake, and an innocent person be put to death for something they didn't do? In that case, it's wrong. But...hm. The whole concept of an eye for an eye really is insanely stupid. Hammurabi was all cool and **** when he made laws, I mean go team. But he wasn't right people! Indeed.

you're right koge. death isn't always the answer, sometimes, there are things worse than death. i mean, look at all the fun torure methods out there that haven't been used in forever! *^-^* no one'd be killed, the bad people would learn their lesson, eventually, and if the person WAS innocent, well then, you just let them go and compensate them for their time, and possible pay for their shrink.
