...it's been some 40 years... But now Russia and USA are NOT alone, that's because...

...Early this morning 14th October 2003, China successfully launched their first manned spacecraft into space. It will orbit the earth 14 times in an estimated space of 21 hours before landing back on ground tonight (G.M.T). Being a chinese, I am proud of my nation's development and progress(it was about time dammit!).

The pilot - Yang Liwei, a Lt. Col in the army and 38 years of age was selected out of some 1000 possible candidates for the job. Remember him well... After Yuri Gagarin (Russia) and Alan Shepard (USA) Yang Liwei (China) is the third hero.

The ship, called "Shenzhou 5" (sounds familar doesn't it :p) or 'Divine Vessel' is the ship used, it's design is based on an earlier model of a Russian spaceship.

Now China has made history, and that's another date some of you should store away and remember... 14/10/03 - China makes it to space.

This isn't really that great of an achievment. Get Russian pre fabricated technology, tinker with it slightly and achieve something that was done already over fourty years ago.

Sending a man into space has not been a priority for other nations which could have done this too before China.

I guess... Nevertheless, it's up, it's been round the earth 14 times, it's back down, it's made history, and there's one hero worth celebrating for at the very least... It's still something to be proud of (for me and my nation in any case)

I agree with Athena. If other countries had gone into space, they'd be more "famous", for lack of a better term. And the EU's space program, the ESA, is trying to get into space, but they haven't yet. China's done a wonderful thing, regardless of when they did it or how.

I saw the guy on the front page of the Sun my dad had (god knows how old this edition is, but I'm guessing it's from today) and for those thta don't know (presumably alot) The Sun is an Edmonton NewsPaper they sell in this little town since our news paper is too small town to report important things. As far as I know there are differen versions of it all over canada. (we also get the Edmonton Journal here, Edmonton's main newspaper).

Anywho, hoorah. ^^ it does seem soemthing to be happy about, even tho when you think about it, it isn't that important... X( Oh well, celebrate anyways!

Well... no, but in terms of space technology, they are third... after Russia and America. Not too sure second superpower. I think Russia is ahead of us.
